TRENTON, N.J. (AP) A senior al-Qaida operative lived in New Jersey and posed as a student while conducting surveillance of financial institutions as possible targets for a terror attack, according to a published report.
The operative, identified by U.S. officials in Washington as Dhiren Barot, 32, entered the United States on a student visa, The Record of Bergen County reported in Thursday's editions.

Just ANOTHER reason to BAN foreign students from American schools. You ain't a CITIZEN, hit the road scumbag.
John Kerry is worried about the size of his Pell grant...
There is just to much money (illegal)involved in this industry to shut it down.

"He lives in Trenton? Hmmmm...is he a hottie?"
Make your post worthwhile. This too much a wee bit is just cheerleading of some sort. Idle and wasted.
Just because the idiot tyrants on our court's benches force us to excerpt does NOT mean we can not rewrite! You must. We must. I do when I post excerpted articles. Otherwise don't bother posting such a tease of no information. Why bother?
If you feel this was worthwhile enough to spend the time on to note and to post, well make it so for the rest of us.
send him over for an INTERVIEW
Thank God Britain was on its toes:
Authorities believe Barot was dispatched by Osama bin Laden himself to conduct the scouting mission in New Jersey, the newspaper reported. Barot was arrested by British authorities in August and remains in custody there.
The British say Barot had reconnaissance reports for the Prudential building in Newark, the New York Stock Exchange and the Citigroup building in Manhattan and the International Monetary Fund headquarters in Washington.
Discovery of those surveys led U.S. Homeland Security officials to declare an orange alert in early August and prompted heightened security measures at the buildings. Authorities later concluded that the buildings were not under imminent threat of attack.
The Record, citing "an official familiar with the matter," said the al-Qaida survey on the Prudential building contained minutely detailed information, including an observation that a van carrying explosives probably would not fit into its underground parking garage. The report recommended using limousines instead.
It also contained a listing of potential getaway routes to be used after an attack. One notation said using the PATH commuter rail system was an option, but cautioned that exact fare should be carried for use at its automatic turnstiles to speed a getaway, the unnamed official said.
U.S. counterterrorism officials believe Barot authored the reports, which were written in fluent English. They describe surveillance operations during 2000 and 2001.
major bump
Then immigration or as it is known now Customs and Border Protection admits the visa holder into the U.S. to "study".
"...until we have a catostrophic loss of life."
But we already had that. Those 19 guys weren't here legally, they were visa overstayers, sneak-ins, etc. Nothing has changed, Bush just made things worse with his thinly veiled promise of a future amnesty. We should have closed the borders on 9/11 and starting rounding up illegals on 9/12, but we missed that chance.
It seems many of the Arab students are well into their 30's. You have to wonder about that --- why aren't they having to work for a living? Who or what pays their way and why?
I can pretty much guarantee that the New Jersey Institute of Technology is one of the schools involved . . . 1) it is located in Newark, and it has a foreigner/citizen student ratio of about 15:1.
Accdg to the article, he was here conducting his surveillance in 2000 and 2001, then left. There have been some changes, but no where near enough.
Student visa restrictions have hit higher ed right in the gonads. It's a big issue with some universities here in the US, which have become too dependent on the big $$ they receive in non-resident tuition, and are now facing tough competition from schools in Great Britain and Australia. Makes me wonder how many colleges here are letting international students slip in under the door just to keep their numbers up.
Was that you that made the "piss on Clinton's grave I hope he dies" statement or something to that effect on the other thread? You were wrong there and are wrong here. We need much stricter and more diligent background checks of all international students, but certainly not to ban them.
I am excellent friends with many students from China, Turkey, Korea, Italy, Canada, India, and other countries, and while we might not share all of the same political views, they will return to their country with a high opinion of America. They will also be in positions of importance and command respect, having obtained PhD's from one of the best schools in the world, which will make their opinions all the more valued.
The reason people vote for idiots like Kerry and Nader is because they are un-informed, i.e. under-educated about what's going on. Spreading higher education throughout the world will only work to America's benefit. Denying it to good people will only hurt us. It is well within our ability to examine who we let in and deny entrance to the murderers.
I'm guessing possibly Rutgers too.
