DO-NOTHING SENATOR
Kerry Offered Small Bills, But Little Change
___________________________________________

“I’ve actually passed 56 individual bills that I’ve personally written. And in addition to that, they’re not always under my name. There’s amendments on certain bills.” (Sen. John Kerry, Third Presidential Debate, Tempe, AZ, 10/13/04)

OH REALLY? THE RECORD SHOWS OTHERWISE:

Kerry Has “A Short List Of Laws That Bear His Name.”  “Asked what he has accomplished during his 19 years in the Senate, Democratic presidential candidate John Kerry gives a lengthy answer but has a short list of laws that bear his name.” (Nedra Pickler, “Kerry’s Senate Career Marked By Investigations, Not Legislation,” The Associated Press, 7/21/03)

Since Joining The U.S. Senate In 1985, Kerry Has Been The Lead Sponsor On 316 Bills, Only 5 (1.6%) Of Which Became Law.(Thomas Website, http://thomas.loc.gov, Accessed 10/3/04)

WHAT EXACTLY HAS KERRY “FOUGHT FOR”?

Kerry Claims To Fight For Causes, But Little Legislation Bears His Name. “Almost immediately, Kerry also can expect the media - probably with assists from his Democratic rivals and the GOP - to shine a scrutiny laser on his political career. Although in speeches he claims to have ‘fought for’ various causes in Congress, it’s hard to name a major piece of legislation that bears his name.” (Morton M. Kondracke, “‘Comeback Kerry’ Now Faces Intense Scrutiny Of Record,” Roll Call, 1/29/04)

Kerry “Fought For” Legislation Of Little Consequence. “[C]ritics assert that he lacks legislative accomplishments, for all his talk of ‘leading fights’ on issues like health care. They note that much of the legislation that became law, for which he was chief sponsor, involves matters like ocean research, protecting marine mammals from commercial fishing and providing grants to small businesses owned by women -- hardly the fuel that drives presidential campaigns.” (David E. Rosenbaum and Robin Toner, “In Senate, Kerry Focused On Inquiries, Not Bills,” The New York Times, 2/8/04)

Kerry Hasn’t “Been A Real Leader.” “‘There isn’t a particular issue on which I have a real problem with Kerry,’ says Bob Bixby, executive director of the Concord Coalition, a nonpartisan group that advocates fiscal restraint. ‘But there isn’t an issue he’s been a real leader on, either.’” (Dan Gilgoff, “Resisting Labels,” U.S. News & World Report, 2/16/04)

KERRY HAS DONE LITTLE WORK ON MAJOR ISSUE AREAS

“[O]n Education And Health Care, Two Of The Most Important Domestic Battlegrounds Between Democrats And Republicans, Kerry Has A Thin Record.” (David Nather, “Kerry’s Complex Record And His Pursuit Of The Presidency,” CQ Weekly, 4/24/03)

“[Kerry] Has Not Played A Major Role In The Most Significant Health Care Debates Of Recent Years …” (David Nather, “Kerry’s Complex Record And His Pursuit Of The Presidency,” CQ Weekly, 4/24/03)

During The Senate Debate On “No Child Left Behind,” The Senate Did Not Debate A Single Kerry Amendment. “[D]uring the six weeks of Senate debate in 2001 on the ‘No Child Left Behind’ education law (PL 107-110), the most significant overhaul of education policy since 1965, the Senate never debated a Kerry amendment.  (Two minor provisions of his were added to the bill on voice votes.)” (David Nather, “Kerry’s Complex Record And His Pursuit Of The Presidency,” CQ Weekly, 4/24/03)

Kerry Did Not Labor “In The Trenches” When The Senate Passed “No Child Left Behind.” “[W]hen the Senate took up President Bush’s No Child Left Behind Act in 2001, it was [Senator Edward] Kennedy and Senator Joseph Lieberman, a Democrat from Connecticut, who played the leading roles, laboring in the trenches when the bill moved through the chamber.”  (John Aloysius Farrell, “At The Center Of Power, Seeking The Summit,” The Boston Globe, 6/21/03)

KERRY IS A SHOW HORSE, NOT WORK HORSE

The Boston Globe: Kerry Has “Long Had A Reputation As More Of A Show Horse Than A Workhorse.” (Scot Lehigh, “Weld vs. Kerry? Pow!” The Boston Globe, 9/10/95)

Kerry Is Known As “Live Shot” In Massachusetts. “By the time John F. Kerry began his second term as US senator in 1991, his nickname among Massachusetts political insiders was ‘Live Shot,’ a reference to his relentless courting of reporters, especially those with TV cameras in tow. In the Senate, where seniority and decorum still mattered, Kerry was seen as an impatient new breed, more interested in generating headlines than mastering the sometimes tedious process of lawmaking.”  (John Aloysius Farrell,  “At The Center Of Power, Seeking The Summit,” The Boston Globe, 6/21/03)

What Kerry needed to do was score a knockout. He needed to show America a reason to change. He didn't beat the champ - why should people vote for the challenger?

Carl Cameron of FOX News said a few minutes ago that the Kerry camp actually confirmed that the actual number of bill Kerry wrote that passed both houses and were signed into law was actually only FIVE (5).

I commented to my wife about Kerry's weasley rebuttal, and how he parsed the language on this very point.
Rats aren't happy unless they're disembling.
And what's up with the weird hand gestures?
Taking some alpha male lessons from Naomi Wolf, JFK?

Kerry promised the American people that he would be a tireless worker for change

The lying scum bag barely ever showed up for work in 25 years....

Now suddenly he is ambitious?

Normal people get fired all the time for productivity this low. How the people of Mass. put this scum into office is beyond me.

On the bright side, this socialist commie only got five inconsequential laws enacted in 20 years.

Of the only five that actually were passed and signed by a president, only one was legislative -ie substantive - and the other four were resolutions - more interesting IMO are the 45 or so that were apparently passed by the Senate or both houses but eventually vetoed or left to die - they must have been real stinkers......

While flipping through channels tonight I caught an interviewer asking Bob Kerrey about John Kerry's legislative accomplishments. Kerrey used a lot of words to answer, but he couldn't give an answer!

John Kerry has spent 20 years in the Senate writing "plans". Hardly any of those "plans" were worth putting up to a vote in the Senate and even fewer made it into law. Now he wants the country to believe he has a plan for everything. History has shown that most of his plans are worthless.

On 316 Bills, Only 5 (1.6%) Of Which Became Law

Kerry want people to believe that he could bring more of our allies into a coalition to help in Iraq. History has pr oven that he couldn't build a coalition in congress to get the vast majority of his own bills passed. A leader? I think not.
