If you think this will be considered news fit to print by the NY Times or broadcast by Dan Rather in any kind of way that would ever hurt Kerry, you have a whole lot of misplaced faith in a hopelessly corrupt media. If they mention it at all, it will in a way calculated to take potshots at Republicans.

Absent the paperwork documenting the specifics of when/why of any clearance revokation, you are wasting keystrokes.

Give what Kerry did, NOT to initiate action to strip him of his security clearance would have been neglect of duty on the part of his official Commanding Officer.

However, the Navy immediately pulled Kerrys security clearance. He became a Naval Reserve officer who was known not to be trusted. He kept his commission, but lost all access to any classified information. In the words of one of the now-retired agents, Lieutenant Kerry wasnt cleared to know what time it was! Johnny sure has some explaing to do

If this breaks, at the very least it will allow a lot of people to hear the Kerry Paris Peace Talks story for the firat time. That could be worth 1 to 2 points on Nov 3.
But if it does break hot, it could do real damage to Team Kerry.

Why was "a top secret clearance was required for his work at that time" (1967)?
Was it SOP?

I thought to be a CIC you had to be able to get TS clearance?
I had SAR clearance and they had all kinds of requirements you had to meet.

This is only part of the story, it doesn't explain the reason that Kerry's discharge is reported as 1978, instead of 1972. Kerry was probably issued a dishonorable discharge when his security clearance was stripped. Then got it upgraded through Carter amnesty.

I would be very surprised to find that Kerry held a TS clearance after leaving active duty. Since he would have no "need to know" he would have been debriefed and signed out of the program.
In my experiance, I only held a clearance as high as was required to perform my duties. And that was tied to the command/job I held. I have carried TS/SCI clearances on active duty and as a civilian contractor. If the job I was in no longed required a particular level of access, you were debriefed.

Be prepared for the libs to spin it as a routine downgrading of clearance due to no longer having the need. It happens in the navy all the time. In fact, I had my TS downgraded to Secret when I transferred from my submarine to shore duty. It will be upgraded again when I go back to sea duty next year. They give you only what you need.
I'm not saying that's how it was. I'm saying that's how they will try to spin it, if they know anything about military clearances.
