Advisers say Kerry to focus on trust (Clintons gearing up to campaign)
Boston Globe ^ | October 10, 2004 | Glen Johnson

....The Kerry campaign's Washington headquarters, once a hub of activity, is now nearly empty, after political operatives and communications specialists fanned out across the country during the past two weeks to work directly in the election battlegrounds.

They will be supported by scores of surrogates speaking in the closing weeks of the campaign. Dean, his onetime rival, will be dispatched to college audiences. Senator Hillary Rodham Clinton of New York is to assume an aggressive speaking schedule. And Bill Clinton, who is recovering from open-heart surgery, may return to the stump the week before the election or, at least, tape get-out-the-vote calls and videos.

In Iowa last week, where voters are known to jot down their impressions in a notebook during precaucus meetings with the candidates, Kerry handed out a laminated index card summarizing the reasons to vote for him and to reject Bush's bid for reelection. ''Good jobs, increasing family incomes, health care for all children, and fiscal discipline" were the underlined catchphrases, while the case against the president included lost jobs, a $1,500 decline in average family income, an increase of 5 million people without health insurance, and the highest federal budget deficit in history.

''If you in Iowa think your life is better off today, four years later . . . I guess you could say, 'I like it, and I want more of it,' and go vote for George Bush. But if you believe that we can do better and that there are better choices," Kerry said in Tipton, .....

The campaign also believes that the debate over stem cells, whose research Bush has limited while in office, is especially potent with female voters.

....In addition, aides said Kerry must connect with voters on an emotional level in the closing weeks of the campaign......

aides said Kerry must connect with voters on an emotional level

Best of luck on that, considering that Kerry is emotionally sterile.

But a lot of voters are ignorant and base their votes on what they can get or take from others.

With the latest unemployment rate in Iowa near 4% he will have a tough time selling new "free" goodies.

"Oh yeah, Bush! Sure, he can keep you safe from terrorists. Sure; he can keep the economy going, with 5.4 percent unemployment and rising productivity and all that. But can you trust the guy? Eh? That's the ticket! Trust! Who can you trust? Our guy has a plan to make his administration the most trusted in U.S. history! Why, John Kerry is so trustworthy you could trust him with your wife! ... I mean, your life! The band of buggers ... er, brothers! Covering your back; you with the ammo and him with the gun, crying "feed me! feed me!" and you were feeding him, Jack; feeding him .... etc.,etc.

Trust? On the #1 issue Iraq, Kerry would have had us join with the coalition of the bribed with Oil for Food to 'contain' Saddam. Cozy up with the UN and work some 'diplomacy'.

Hilarious, someone says "bring out the trust" and Kerry's response is "I'll get the Clintons."

What can we trust the Clintons to do, again? Murder their enemies, cheat on each other in public, support Al Queda in the Balkans, steal the furniture from the White House, and give away our nuclear secrets to China. With trust like that...

In order to win, Kerry's camp must breakdown trust in Bush.

Kerry can only win by destroying.

He stabbed his fellow soldiers in the back; surely he can be trusted to do the same to those that vote for him.

Clintons gearing up to campaign? That is the political equivalent of a death wish. He must know that involving the Clintons will be like the kiss of death to his presidential aspirations. He really mustn't want to win, because Bill Clinton will never let Kerry between himself and a TV camera.
