I agree, THEY ARE important, on official documents.. but on the fly in a chat room...?
Everyone makes mistakes whyle typing. :o) However, some basic rules of grammar and/or spelling are important if one is to be taken seriously. Every time I see the word "loose" used for "lose", it drives me batty. 9 times out of 10, that isn't a typing error. Someone simply does not know the difference.
