Titans to clash -- and there's a debate, too - Yankees Republicans?? Twins Democrats???
Star Tribune ^ | Oct. 8 | Nick Coleman

Posted on 10/08/2004 12:49:49 PM PDT by KR2002

Here is a section from the article...

"The Yankees embody values of the Republican Party," according to Frederic J. Frommer, co-author (with his father, Harvey) of "Growing Up Baseball: An Oral History." The Yankees, Frommer has written, are "the richest (team) in baseball, just as the GOP maintains its dominant financial position in American politics. ... And the Yankees are successful winning American League pennants in five of the last six years, just as the GOP has won four of the last six presidential elections."

Not to mention that Rudy Giuliani is the Yankees' biggest booster and that Alex Rodriguez, the Yankees' $22-million-per-year third baseman, is a Bush campaign contributor.

Of course, it would be hard to argue that the Twins, with a $52 million payroll, compared to the Yankees' $188 million, should be considered blue-collar Democrats. But as the election draws near, everything smacks of politics these days. Even apple pie.

Dont forget the Red Sox. They did boo Kerry when he was at Fenway and couldnt throw the opening pitch.

GO SOX!

Someone should remind Coleman that Kerry-Edwards are the wealthiest presidential ticket in history.

The most recent harmonic convergence between the American League and the Republicans was in 2000, when the Yankees beat the Mets in the "Subway Series" and the younger Bush beat Al Gore. Well, Bush didn't actually beat Gore, not in the popular vote, anyway. But let's not get into that now.

The umps gave it to him.

This part really shows what a !@#$@#$!@#%$!@#$ Coleman is....

But of course, he won't use the old analogy about the baseball series... If (WHEN) the Twins win the series 3-2 (but the Yankees actually scored more runs in all 5 games), should we just assume the Yankees really won ?

I always had a place in my heart for the Red Sox but, this year, I would even prefer the Yankees to them.

This post season has unfortunately seeped into politics. The thought of Kerry at the ballgame talking about his favorite player Manny Ortiz is just too painful.

I'm pulling for the Braves anyway. If Houston happens to win the NLDS I would not be unhappy about Houston going all the way. Bush 41 and Bush 43 might get some free face time.

oh common, if the lowest paid, hardest working team in the league arent conservative i dont know what team would be. The yankees have bought each and everyone of their World Champion rings and blame it on everyone else if they dont win each year. this is a stupid arguement anyways, GO TWINS!!!!

To the LLL MSM, everything is political and they will miss no chance to push their agenda, no matter how silly their point may be.
