An excerpt for the Vice-Presidential debate. Senator Edwards remarking on the voting record of Dick Cheney when he was in Congress.
"He voted against the Department of Education. He voted against funding for Meals on Wheels for seniors. He voted against a holiday for Martin Luther King. He voted against a resolution calling for the release of Nelson Mandela in South Africa."

Let's see here. The Department of Education is a complete failure in educating and has only been successful in creating more bureaucracy. Meals on Wheels is best left to the individual states and communities to decide how best to care for their aging populations. Martin Luther King didn't discover human rights. There were thousands before him that paved his way. The resolution calling for the release of Nelson Mandella in South Africa did not procure his release.
Well, I was going to add a comment, but you said everything I was going to except this: I wasn't aware of these things about Cheney before this article was posted. I like him better as a result.

The only one that hurts him at all is the King holiday. I am not sure why he voted against it, perhaps costs? Anyway, liberals who cry states' rights now that state courts are set to order legislatures to legalize gay marriage sure forget about it quickly when the issue is federalizing every other detail of our lives. Healthy mother/father marriages HELPS education -- A GREAT DEAL! And Meals on Wheels? Why is that a federal issue? Heck, liberals think saying a prayer or displaying art positive towards God is a federal issue. Everything that could buy votes is a federal issue UNLESS it is an issue of morality. Liberals take a principled stand against morality even if it's unpopular (unless that can twist their language into sounding for it while voting against it).
The Mandela part was kinda, well, stoopid. He wasn't imprisoned as a "political prisoner". He wasn't imprisoned in America.
It reminded me of Jean-Fraude telling us he would disarm Russia.

Cheney deserves PRAISE for backing the US Constitution. Edwards is a democrat and hates the Constitution.
He voted against it because national holidays are very expensive, and because Martin Luther King was a hero to one segment of the population, but was irrelevant to the rest, since he hadn't yet been deified by the media.
Since then, Washington's Birthday and Lincoln's Birthday have been combined into an anonymous "President's Day," which could apply equally to Bill Clinton as to the significant presidents. And we can't call Christmas by its name any more.
Thus, the only person with a national holiday bearing his name is Martin Luther King. This seems a little wrong.

I had to chuckle when Edwards made the shocking allegation during the debate that Cheney voted against "Smart Start".
#40 never followed thru with that promise and while I admire him greatly, I'll take it up with him one day in the hopefully distant future when I see him.
The funny thing about the Edwards argument over having met VP#43 is that every time he offers proof he met him, it's not in the senate! Brilliant setup! The more Edwards illustrates that he met the VP many times, not once was it in the senate, where Edwards is supposed to be! Adults in charge!
Let's not forget he also voted against that massive boondoggle called "HeadStart."
These are all good votes in my book, and I'd much rather our President were Dick Cheney!
This speaks volumes about Cheney. Looks to me like he was very involved in his job.

I see now why Edwards is pissed. Cheney actually did his job and Edwards was about the worst slacker I've ever heard of!

And... I'll have to admit that when Edwards read off the list, I said, "Yes," then "Yes," then "Hell Yes," and then "Yahoo. Wow, I didn't know that. Cheney's my man."

I wouldn't work for them otherwise.
Token black man day just won't fly. They had to get it on the books quick, otherwise the demographic dynamics would have tossed MLK day aside for Caesar Chavez Day. The black population in America is an irrelevant dynamic. They are in the slow lane, watching the diverse world go by, still clinging on to the hope that being black will get them something more than cheese.
