My 16 year old son was discussing the draft in his High School American history class. He announced to his class that Democrats have introduced a bill in the house, and in the senate to reinstate the draft. Neither his teacher nor anybody in his class believed him, they were all convinced it was President Bush and the Republicans pushing for the draft. While my boy was on a roll he also announced to his class that the Democratic VP candidate John Edwards can channel the thoughts of a dead baby to a Jury. His teacher didnt believe that one at all.
Rising to the challenge my son printed out the draft bill from Fritz Hollings web site, a copy of House Bill HR-163, and a list of all Co-Sponsors of the bill. He also printed this revealing article from the NY times In Trial Work, Edwards Left a Trademark which has a court transcript of Edwards communicating with the dead.
I dont know the teachers politics, but it was clear this teacher was disturbed that he did not know the truth, and had erroneously believed that Republicans were pushing for the draft, and the guy was shocked by the Edwards channeling the dead article. He gave my Son enough extra credit points to move his grade from a B+ to an A, and he has also been showing the documents to the other teachers in school.
Thanks Freepers
I love these hope for the future stories. :)
smart kid
Wait until your son actually explains what the Founding Fathers actually wrote and meant in the US Constitution...
Good work! I find it strange and fascinating that the Dems are stirring up fear and accusing Bush of trying to revive the draft, when it's Charlie Rangel's baby.
from the heavy-handed domination of the Media Mullahs.
You're lucky. My son's history teacher thinks that f/911 is true. She requires her students to bring in articles on current events at least once a week. After memogate, the fake tan and the investigation of two NY times reporters who tipped off an Islamic "charity" of pending arrests-- she has asked my son not to bring in any more articles in reference to politics.
You're only hope for a conservative teacher is a history teacher.
The rest are all liberal patzies.
Just guessing, but if they did a poll of all public high school teachers, of the 10% that are conservative, I bet you that 80% of them are history teachers.
The only teachers I ever had in high school who even showed a hint of conservatism, were history teachers. The one was a full fledge John Wayne, General Patton clone.
They lie for a living and this year they're telling more whoppers than ever.
They want power and it's obvious to me that they'll do ANYTHING to get it back.
If that means we have to lose the war in Iraq, we so be it if it works for them.
I think my son blew his grade when he took his 8th Grade History teacher down - He just couldn't handle it when she taught that Stonewall Jackson got his nickname by his unit's hiding behind the wall at the "Battle of Frederick".
The funny thing about it is Charlie Rangel actually did this as a protest to the Iraqi war. He further went on to say that he doubted anyone would ever vote for it. Seems to me, that Rangel and his coalition of Democratic supports has wasted America's tax dollars on writing a bill that he never intended to be voted on. It's no wonder why we have a deficient with people like Rangel in office.
Does she still require the other students to bring in political articles? If so, I would make an issue of it.
Ye shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you angry......
I'm impressed. That must have been a major paradigm shift for the teacher. First to find out that his/her beloved Rats had been lying, and second to have a student demonstrate that level of political knowledge, and be able to back it up with verifiable sources. Kudos to your son.
I like this so much I have posted it on todays update of www.Christian-news-in-maine.com with a link back here so that our readrs can see Freeper comments.
Me too. So many teachers would have told him to sit down and shut up, like one of mine did after I corrected her when she said Carter gave up the Panama Canal because the lease was up. Her response was, "Sit down and shut up or go to the office."
At least this teacher was interested in the truth.
I don't want to join.
Thanks!
Please tell your son THANK YOU..for standing by the facts in spite of the dreaded peer pressure:) Bet he made you proud!
