THE VICE-PRESIDENT AND THE TRIAL LAWYER

Tonight it's time for round two of the debates, and this time it's the only Vice-Presidential one. North Carolina Senator John Edwards will square off against Vice President Dick Cheney. The debate will begin at 9pm Eastern time, and will last 90 minutes. It is going to be held at Case Western Reserve University in Cleveland. This could be more exciting than the presidential debate was, or maybe not.

The Tort King will no doubt try and go after Dick Cheney's previous job running Halliburton...but that's may well backfire. All Cheney has to do in return is go after Edwards' personal-injury lawyer past...winning millions of dollars in fees chasing ambulances. Which do people dislike more: a personal injury lawyer or the head of a company with workers deployed in a war zone? How many women in North Carolina and elsewhere have undergone unnecessary C-Sections because of the efforts of John Edwards?

Cheney should handle Edwards handily. The Vice President has been in national politics for three decades, while the blow-dried Senator has only been on the Washington stage for barely six years. Cheney won the debate with Joe Liebermann in 2000, he should have no problem doing the same with Edwards. But then I thought that Bush wouldn't have any trouble with The Poodle!

Then again, PBS' Gwen Ifill is moderating, so who knows

RULE OF LAW? OR RULE OF THE MOB.

The next president of the United States will probably appoint three Supreme Court Justices. If you don't know how much of an affect this will have on the future of our republic, you don't have any business voting. Other than the war against terrorism, this is really the most important issue of the campaign.

Here's an example. The Supreme Court has now accepted a case on eminent domain. The court will decide whether or not local governments can seize private property for no other purpose than to turn that property over to some other private owner who will build something on it that will generate more tax revenue. If the Supreme Court puts its stamp of approval on this plunder then the concept of private property rights in America will be forever altered, perhaps destroyed. Those who love government (liberals) love this idea. How about you?

Our founding fathers gave us a government ruled by law, not by the whims and wishes of the mob. The next president has the power to destroy that structure with just three appointments to the Supreme Court.

SADDAM HAD WMD AND TIES TO AL-QAEDA --- DEAL WITH IT.

One of the Democrats' and The Poodle's favorite ploys is to harp on is that Saddam had no connection to Al-Qaeda and no weapons of mass destruction. Despite mounting evidence to the contrary, the left continues to advance the lie. Well, now comes even more evidence of Saddam's ties to terrorism and his weapons of mass destruction.

Iraqi intelligence documents taken by U.S. forces show a number of efforts by Saddam's government to work with Al-Qaeda, along with other terrorists. The documents also show that Saddam had mustard gas and anthrax, both considered weapons of mass destruction. By the way, some of those weapons, artillery shells with sarin gas, have already been found. You did know that, didn't you?

The papers also show that Iraq trained terrorists, along with orders by Saddam to attack Americans in Somalia. Remember that? The particular memo in question was written 9 months before the Army Rangers were ambushed in Mogadishu, And if that weren't enough, the documents include lists of Saddam's terrorist buddies that he worked with, including al-Zarqawi and al-Zawahiri. The former is still in Iraq, and is responsible for beheading a number of Americans. The latter's voice is believed to be heard on the latest tape broadcast on Al-Jazeera (where else) calling for attacks on Americans everywhere.

No matter how much evidence comes to light that Saddam Hussein supported terrorism and that Iraq was a terrorist state, the Bush-hating media and Islamic terrorist apologists will never concede any justification for the war in Iraq. Why?

Because it would help Bush and hurt Kerry...why else?

JUST FOR THE RECORD

In spite of what John Kerry said yesterday .. and what was parroted by Michael J. Fox ... President Bush has NOT banned stem cell research, nor has he banned government funding of stem cell research. Now I happen to be on the side of people who want wide-open stem cell research, including research conducted with stem cells obtained from aborted human embryos. In short, I think that Bush's position is wrong on this. That being said, it is only fair to point out that he has not banned this type of research and that Democrats are lying. Other than Fox News Channel, don't expect the mainstream media to correct this Kerry lie.

BREMER SAYS THERE WEREN'T ENOUGH TROOPS

The former administrator of the Coalition in Iraq, Paul Bremer has given a speech and plenty of ammunition to the Democrats. In his speech yesterday in West Virginia, Bremer said he supports the war, but that there weren't enough troops. Not exactly the support the Bush administration was looking for from their former man in Baghdad. But was that what he really said?

Speaking about the looting that happened early on, Bremer said "We paid a big price for not stopping it because it established an atmosphere of lawlessness. We never had enough troops on the ground." Now, what he meant and what the Kerry campaign and the media is going to say he meant are two different things.

He is talking about when he first arrived in Baghdad, not now. He says there weren't enough troops then, and he was right. that's why his predecessor was fired and he was hired, because they needed a change. Nothing new here. In a later clarification, Bremer said as much, saying "I believe that we currently have sufficient troop levels in Iraq." He said references to troop levels in recent speeches he made were about when he first got to Baghdad in May of 2003 "and when I believed we needed either more coalition troops or Iraqi security forces to address the looting."

He also said he strongly supports President Bush's re-election. Let's see how much of this gets reported.

About the looting: The problem wasn't that we didn't have enough troops on the ground. The problem was that the troops weren't allowed to do what they needed to do to stop the lawlessness from the beginning ... and that includes shooting looters. That's life in a war zone. You loot --- you die.

KERRY AS DIPLOMAT

How long have we been hearing, mostly from John Kerry, about the tremendous successes Kerry would have in using his superior understanding of the world to improve America's foreign relations? Why, I think we've been hearing that for the better part of a year now!

Well ... here's a bit from a news dispatch:

"Iran on Sunday rebuffed a proposal by U.S. presidential candidate John Kerry who has suggested supplying the Islamic state with nuclear fuel for power reactors if Tehran agrees to give up its own fuel-making capability."

Oops. Looks like that Kerry diplomacy is magic, doesn't it?

IT MUST BE SOME SORT OF A DEMOCRATIC PARTY RULE

Count how many times you hear the phrase "extreme right wing" out of John Kerry the next 28 days. Focus groups show that people react negatively to the word "extreme." It's been that way since the Goldwater - Johnson campaign. So look for the "E" word to be attached to Bush and to Republicans in any way possible.

NOT TO BE BELIEVED

Shiba Pillai-Diaz is a teacher at the Crossroads South Middle School in Monmouth Junction, New Jersey. In her classroom was a bulletin board with pictures of past presidents. Pillai-Diaz put a picture of President Bush on that board. Then along comes back-to-school night. Three parents confront Pillai-Diaz about the picture of George Bush. They demand a picture of John Kerry be placed on the board or Bush's picture be removed. Pillai-Diaz points out that the pictures are of presidents and former presidents, and John Kerry doesn't yet qualify.

The three parents then complain to the school. The vice-principal threatens Pillai-Diaz with her job if the picture isn't removed. Pillai-Diaz grows tired of the harassment and removes the entire bulletin board. Then Jim Warfel, the school principal, tells Pillai-Diaz that she has disrupted the school with her "inflammatory politics." Warfel told Pillai-Diaz to hand over her keys to her classroom and leave the building.

Let's see if we get this straight. There was no political content on the bulletin board. An American Flag, a copy of the Declaration of Independence, and pictures of presidents. That's it. This the principal of this government school describes as "inflammatory politics?" Seems to me that it was the parents who were inflaming the situation. They're the ones with the partisan political cause.

Government schools. Whatchagonnado?

The media won't let Cheney win. They'll say he is old and mean no matter what he does. They can't resist talking up the Breck Girl
