ABOUT THAT DRAFT RUMOR

Not having anything worthwhile to say for himself, John Kerry has his surrogates out starting nasty rumors about the Bush administration. Our liberal national media doesn't seem to mind when Kerry minions spout obvious mistruths. The large media news organizations never bother fact-checking and questioning Democrats about even the most blatant lies, so Democrats babble on with impunity.

We, however, prefer to take notes and lie in wait until the actual candidate starts feeling confident the trial balloon sent up by minions is safe to follow.

John Kerry, of course, is libel to say anything. So, it didn't take long before Kerry himself started verifying the origin of the path of mistruths trod by his campaign crew and their media coworkers.

At a September 22 address to a group of communists, socialists and other Social-Democrats, Kerry cited[1] the war in Iraq, and other trouble spots in the world, as reasons a second Bush administration would probably reinstate the military draft. Kerry also said he would not bring back the draft, then whined about how unfairly it was administered in the past.

Kerry neglected, at that time, to mention that he has a plan to conscript at least a million young people a year, for a two year period of service, as soon as they graduate from high school. But, nevermind. That's a different story.

The half-truth by Kerry and supporters is bolstered because there really is a bill in the House (H.R. 163) to reinstate the draft and there was a bill in the Senate (S. 89). What Kerry & company intentionally misrepresent (by not mentioning it) is the source of the bill.

The Senate bill was submitted by retiring Senator Ernest Hollings (D-SC) in January of 2003 and is no longer available.

The House bill is much more interesting. That bill was also submitted in January of last year -- by Rep. Charles Rangel (D-NY).

The summery states: "Universal National Service Act of 2003 - Declares that it is the obligation of every U.S. citizen, and every other person residing in the United States, between the ages of 18 and 26 to perform a two-year period of national service, unless exempted, either as a member of an active or reserve component of the armed forces or in a civilian capacity that promotes national defense. Requires induction into national service by the President. Sets forth provisions governing: (1) induction deferments, postponements, and exemptions, including exemption of a conscientious objector from military service that includes combatant training; and (2) discharge following national service."

Furthermore, the bill "amends the Military Selective Service Act to authorize the military registration of females."

It gets better, though. Along with Rangel, there are 15 cosponsors: Rep Abercrombie (D-HI)[*], Rep Brown (D-FL)[*^], Del Christensen (D-VI)[^], Rep Clay (D-MO)[*^], Rep Conyers (D-MI)[*^], Rep Cummings (D-MD)[^], Rep Hastings (D-FL)[^], Rep Jackson (D-IL)[*^], Rep Jackson-Lee (D-TX)[*^], Rep Lewis (D-GA)[*^], Rep McDermott (D-WA)[*], Rep Moran (D-VA), Rep Stark (D-CA)[*], Rep Velazquez (D-NY)[*], and Del Norton (D-DC)[*^].

After each name is the standard designation of party and state, followed by brackets containing a "*" and/or "^" to designate organization. The "*" is used herein to designate that the person is an active member of the Congressional arm of the Socialist Party: the Congressional Progressive Caucus[2]. The "^" after the name designates the person is a member of the Congressional Black Caucus[3].

So there we have the source of that rumor: A bill introduced in Congress 20 months ago and sponsored by sixteen of the worst members of Congress. Eleven of them are card carrying socialists. Eleven are members of the Black Caucus. Seven are card carrying members of both. But, membership cards notwithstanding, all are practicing socialists -- and staunch supporters of John Kerry.

So yes, by all means, let's keep this story of the draft alive. Everyone should hear about it for the next few weeks. The proposal was sponsored by the communists and socialists in Congress who most adamantly support Kerry for president. Voters need to know that.

Wander over to <http://thomas.loc.gov/>, enter HR 163 in the box at the top of the page and see for yourself. The Senate bill was pulled, but the House bill is still there for all to see.

Oh . . . and be sure to tell all the women in your life that the Kerry supporters in Congress added a little something to the old draft law. They want to "authorize the military registration of females." That should really please the distaff set.

This story is coming out now. Fox had a clip of Wrangle yesterday morning, he admitted the bill's political motivation. This was all contrived to stir up the rumor mill against Bush. Slowly but surely, the truth does get out.

I see that you are from New Jersey. On WABC Radio the other day, Mark Levine was speaking about the draft and all of its ramifications. His first point was that only Congress can authorize a draft. President Bush can not unilaterally or , in other words all by himself authorize a draft. Secondly, he spoke about the so called back door draft. That is the policy that prohibits servicemen from leaving the service either by retiring or departing when their tour is up. One of his points here was that that specific policy has been going on for fourteen years and it did not start under this President. One other thing that he mentioned is that the root of the problem meaning the need for a back door draft is driven by Congress who after the Cold War ended cut our troop strength by about half. Today the service is not what it used to be we only have so many slots and we turn people away who otherwise would have enlisted. All it would take to solve the problem of the "back door draft" would be for Congress to authorize 200,000 more slots in the military. So make no mistake about it Charlie "The Red" Rangel and the Democrats are the ones who want to have a draft.

This story has pretty much broken open since this post. It was voted down, and that should be the end of that. However, I heard on TV that Wrangle is now saying if you support this war, you must support the draft.

Since you are from NJ, you probably have seen Wrangle on TV more than enough times to know that he talks out of more than one orifice. Reagan won NJ, I think W can win too, even though the polls aren't reflecting that.
