Poll Shows Bush With Solid Lead
Yahoo news ^ | Sep 27, 2004 | Dan Balz and Vanessa Williams,

President Bush (news - web sites) heads into the first presidential debate with a solid lead over John F. Kerry, boosted by the perception that he is a stronger leader with a clearer vision, despite deep concerns about Iraq (news - web sites) and the pace of the economic recovery, according to a new Washington Post-ABC News Poll and interviews with voters in battleground states.

Bush's relentless attacks on Kerry have badly damaged the Democratic nominee, the survey and interviews showed. Voters routinely describe Kerry as wishy-washy, as a flip-flopper and as a candidate they are not sure they can trust, almost as if they are reading from Bush campaign ad scripts. But Kerry's problems are also partly of his own making. Despite repeated efforts to flesh out his proposals on Iraq, terrorism and other issues, he has yet to break through to undecided voters as someone who has clear plans for fixing the country's biggest problems.

Bush remains a polarizing figure, strongly admired by his supporters and despised by partisans on the left. Some swing voters who disagree with his policies nonetheless see him as a confident leader and express reluctance to vote him out of office in the middle of the struggle against terrorism, unless Kerry convinces them that he can do a better job.

Bush's relentless attacks??????? I believe that kerry turned the gun on himself and pulled the trigger. "W" has actually sat back and let kerry hang himself....all "W" did was hand him the rope.

Has anyone noticed that lately Bush is leading with registered voters more than he is among likely voters? I can't say for sure, but it is quite possible that is a sign that more people are identifying themselves as Republicans. If we've expanded our party to include a lot of new voters in the past few years, this could be the reason a higher percentage of Republicans are not considered likely voters than had been in the past.

The Dems are getting very desperate in their attacks on Bush. They aren't acting very confident, are they?

Ida thunkit. I know alot of Gore voters who just werent sure about Bush and wanted a certain amount of continuity they felt they would receive in Gore, these same continuity folks will probably vote for Bush this time around.

Shouting, screaming, accusing Bush of lying and misleading, and sending the bloated senior Senator from Massachusetts out, Ted Kennedy, to say that Bush's policies will lead to nuclear war is exactly not the way to convince voters that Kerry can do a better job.

In fact, I don't see a scenario where he can convince voters. It would take a terrorist attack, next week. That would give the media and Kerry three weeks to convince voters it was Bush's fault.

Kerry is rolling the dice, at this point, because his campaign has been such a pathetic effort.

Students of political history will study the Kerry campaign as an example of what NOT to do.

A leader is someone who says what he means and means what he says. This is something that will always remain a mystery to the average politician. And I am afaid that
Kerry himself has defined himself to be what he is (a politician) to the American people. This is why he will,it appears, lose in November. America knows it needs a leader
at this time.

Bush supporters and fellow Republicans, don't rest on your oars yet, the finish line hasn't been crossed.

When the November election day comes, vote and get your friends to vote too. Don't stop supporting the campaign as the Democrats will fight and cheat to the very end.

"Students of political history will study the Kerry campaign as an example of what NOT to do."

I couldn't agree more. Kerry made the conscience decision to go 'anti-war' several weeks ago when he felt his chances slipping away. I believe that was a bad move on his part as his 'base' is already anti-war therefore he had no votes to pick up by doing that. However those who may have considered Kerry but believe in our war on terror now will not vote for him. Seems like every move he's made has backfired on him. As someone put it not long ago "Bush's campaign is playing chess while Kerry's is playing checkers."

The Dems are getting very desperate in their attacks on Bush. They aren't acting very confident, are they?

I have a fear, supported by disturbing reports, that the desperate Demonrats will attempt voter fraud on an unprecedented scale. Today's Demonrats are utterly without moral restraint. Some reported methods: illegal aliens registered without proof of citizenship required to register or vote; phantom votes of thousands of registered but nonexistent voters with surrugates turning up at the polls; challenges of all close races by phalanxes of Demorat lawyers; false claims of black and other voter disenfranchisement; banning of military votes for technicalities, etc.I have not heard of any counters to these.

That's all paranoia. There are more registered Republicans than Democrats, and even some Democrats are not going to vote for a cut-and-run candidate.

I see this "voter fraud" accusation made, but, if Republicans turn out in large numbers, it won't work.

As Hugh Hewitt says, If we win big, they can't cheat.

After what happened in 2000 I understand your concerns. The fact they're losing means they'll be even more desperate in their attempts to steal this election.
