Morris Waller
Chief Master Sgt. Morris Waller, 22, of Hayti, Mo., died Feb. 3, 1966, in the Quang Tri Province, Socialist Republic of Vietnam.
He was born Feb. 9, 1943, in Newport, Ark.
Waller was a 1962 graduate of Hayti High School. He was a member of Hayti First Baptist Church.
He joined the U.S. Air Force June 20, 1962, and left for Vietnam Sept. 17, 1965. He was assigned to the 311th Air Command Squadron stationed at Da Nang Air Base, Socialist Republic of Vietnam.
Waller was the crew chief on an Air Force C-123 Fairchild Provider making a supply mission flying out of Khe Sanh, South Vietnam, en route to Dong Ha, Republic of Vietnam, when his plane went down Feb. 3, 1966.
When the aircraft did not arrive at Dong Ha he was listed as missing in action on that date and carried at that status until Jan. 9, 1978, when he was listed as killed in action. The remains of the crew were located at Quang Tri Province in 2003, and Waller was positively identified in June 2004.
Survivors include his parents, Delphine and Bill Nance of Portageville, Mo.; a sister, Diane Buescher of Jackson; two brothers, Billy Nance Jr. of New Madrid, Mo., and Gary Nance of Davison, Mich.
Friends may call at John W. German Funeral Home in Hayti from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday.
Graveside service with full military rites will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday at Missouri State Veterans Cemetery in Bloomfield.
Sad.
Are you in Cape? I had a wonderful week there a few years ago (last week in July, humidity 97% it seemed) at a small convention. Do you know (or know of) the Wingos? They hosted the convention.
Yes, I am in Cape. I don't know the Wingos, though.
I was just thinking as I read this obit how much I loathe Kerry who has not only spit on the graves of Nam vets...he is still spitting on this man who has not even been buried yet.
Yup..RIP
BTW.. I'm from the Cape :-)
Used to live on Scotts lane... back behind the University,
close to the New Life Fellowship Church.
I hear there is a new bridge in Cape...bout time that skinny
one got retired...it was scary in a big truck!
Yes, we have a nice shiny new bridge. We're having a little trouble blowing up the old one, though. LOL
Well, it was not an article but an obit. Those are usually written by the family around here. So, I don't know, really.
Boy, you guys are having trouble getting rid of the old bridge aren't you?
My daughter and I went through Cape Saturday, and people were stopped in the break-down lane of the new bridge - taking pictures of the old one.
LOL...well, every time they blow up a section, we make the national news.
22 years old and an E-9?! Even in the fast promotion days of Vietnam, I find this unbelievable. If he enlisted at age 18, he would have had to have been promoted every 6 months to make E-9 by his death. No smear intended but something isn't right.
Well, as I have said, the family submits the obits to be published for the paper.
But, I would think that if they had been waiting since 2003 when his remains were found to now being positively identified, they would have gotten the correct information from the military.
He was probably the Loadmaster and the reporter who wouldn't know a damn thing about the Military got it wrong.
I WILL reinterate....this is not an article by any reporter. This is simply an obit in the obit section submitted by the family.
Welcome home son.
I take it back, he is listed on the Wall as a CMS, so this guy was a go getter.
I though I read or saw something about him and the mission he disappeared on a while back.
