Liberal talk radio arrives Comic Al Franken's Air America starts Tuesday as KQKE

Comedian Al Franken is bringing his ambitious attempt to create a liberal talk radio network to the Bay Area's airwaves starting Tuesday.

Air America, which got off to a rocky beginning after its start in April, will take over the slot now occupied by KABL on 960 AM. The new station will be called KQKE, "the Quake." KABL, which plays American standards from the 1940s and 1950s, will move to 92.1 FM, broadcasting out of Walnut Creek.

Clear Channel Communications, which owns KABL, hopes to turn the Sinatra- oriented station into a broader network, starting with 92.1 and a station in Monterey, according to KABL General Manager Joe Cunningham.

Cunningham acknowledged the irony in Clear Channel taking on the liberal talk of Air America. Many liberals love to lambaste Clear Channel -- both for its corporate leadership's support of President Bush and for stations like KNEW (910 AM), a conservative talk station starring San Francisco's Michael Savage.

I couldn't find this already posted. It looks like Frankenkerry wants to take some of KPFA's audience.

I hear they're getting hardly any ratings. Advertising is "free". They are nothing more that a subsidy of "rich white guys", like Soros and his pals. Good luck.

Great! A left-wing socialist in the Bay Area, you don't see many of those.

Yeah...KQED, KPFA and the rest of "public radio" are upset at the competition.

I've been listening to Al quite a bit since I got XM Radio. I can tell you he is THE most boring radio host I've ever heard. He's slow, he can't keep focused on the topic at hand and his so called humor is anything but funny. He needs a co-host to constantly keep him in line and on topic.

They call him a comic. I've never heard anything funny from him.

Just sounds like a garden variety bitter lefty.

How many think AirAmerica will go away after the election?

No longer any reason to poor money down a rat hole.

Especially after W wins.

I "finally" (oh joy) encountered Err America a couple of nights ago. Gawd, what an instant yawner. How ironic that the ones who shout about COINTELPRO and black ops etc., transmit narcolepsy via radio waves....

wow - this time the station is a whole 5,000 watts - that's a step up from most of their other 'affilliates'.

Yeah, kind of like he was on the old Saturday Night Live. I remember back in the 70s with the original cast that show was side splitting.....until his bit came on. The Al Frankin Show, I guess it was supposed to be a spoof on something, although I have no idea of what. I remember him being lame and unfunny back then. Today's angry, bitter leftist persona is even worse.

I also notice that nothing he does stands on its own....he has to rip someone down in order to promote himself , for example, The O'Frankin Factor, Rush Limbaugh is a Big Fat Idiot. Why not a book title like Washed up , Bitter , Leftist , Alleged Comedian... Thats a much more accurate title.

We now have the Air America problem in Rochester NY as of a week ago. WROC replaced Laura, O'Reilly and Shaun with this lib crap. I dashed off a message to the station manager for answers and they do not return any messages or calls. I am now finding out the sponsors of the station and will send them boycott messages. Very unhappy with their poor decision.

The Al Frankin show is also on Robert Redford's Sundance film channel. I watched about ten minutes of it then turned over to something more exciting, a test patern.
