Heinz Kerry, the unscripted spouse

NEW YORK (AP) - They say that opposites attract, and in the case of Sen. John Kerry and Teresa Heinz Kerry, that may be true - at least in their public personas.

While the Democratic presidential nominee has a reputation for being aloof and serious, his wife is perceived as the exact opposite. She can be downright playful in public - dancing or laughing or poking fun at her husband as if he's her straight man. Such as last weekend, when her husband told reporters he was going to spend a Sunday at home working. Heinz Kerry quipped that he has a tough job: "Putting up with me!"

While nearly everything that Kerry says as he seeks to win the presidency is carefully planned, his wife usually remains unscripted - and vastly different from any other political spouse. Her supporters find it refreshing, although polls show many Americans are uncomfortable with her style.

"She speaks her mind," Kerry said with a laugh during an appearance Tuesday on "Live with Regis and Kelly." "I truly love it because she tells the truth."

Kerry's demeanor changes when he is with his wife. He sheds his serious senatorial side and isn't concerned about putting on a public display of affection as they hold hands, nuzzle and sometimes even give each other absent-minded pats on the rear.

Saturday night, they emerged from a Boston restaurant to face a waiting crowd of news media and onlookers. Heinz Kerry, who says she actually is very shy, didn't seem so as she danced a little jig in the glow of the TV camera lights.

Heinz Kerry was wearing high heels, but she still wanted to walk the several blocks of cobblestone to their Beacon Hill townhouse.

The scene attracted onlookers on the sidewalks and some in passing cars who shouted words of encouragement to Kerry.

The couple recognized a few young reporters in one passing cab, and Heinz Kerry leaned in the window playfully asking, "Where's the bar? Where's the bar?" as if she were going to join them. Her husband finally pulled her away by the hand with a broad smile on his face.

Last spring, Heinz Kerry had told reporters traveling with Kerry: "I'm too old to get embarrassed."

poking fun at her husband as if he's her straight man.

Now we know why Kerry/Edwards would be the most gay-friendly administration ever!

Drunk like a skunk, I'd say.

"I truly love it because she tells the truth."

Another populist myth, as perpetuated by the media and the entertainment world. If someone shoots off their mouth without regard for the facts or for the consequences, then they are telling the truth. NOT, only the village idiot does this and only other idiots buy the lie.

Anyone remember the old M*A*S*H episode of Frank Burns' home movies of his wedding? His new bride was in the car, and emasculated him on film by insisting that she drive. Burns impishly walks to the passenger side of the car and they drive off.

Kerry is that same Frank Burns, sheepishly controlled by a domineering wife, beholden to her wealth and completely unable to understand the unacceptability of her condescending attitude toward "the common man."

Anybody catch this?

Opposites attract..."I truly love it because she tells the truth." - as opposed to me - who doesn't know how to tell the truth...

The only "truth" that she tells is when she has to duck, squirm and wiggle away to avoid your revolting lizard tongue. I've never seen a more asexual couple, my in-laws included. The PDAs are of Kerry trying to make it look like he has a happy marriage and TahRAYzuh slapping him back in place with a dirty look.

What a moronic puff-piece of pseudo-journalism that was.

More bizarre behavior by them and the press.

These are just some strange, scary rich people who look down on Americans as being no different than Frenchmen or Tanzanians.

She isn't hurting. She will just go back to whatever funding of groups she is doing.
