Move over Lara Croft. Say hello to Lt. John Kerry, action video game hero.
Later this month the presidential candidate's service in Vietnam -- the subject of ongoing controversy -- receives the full video game treatment with "John Kerry and the men of Swift Boat PCF-94."
Available for download from kumawar.com as a free seven-day trial, the game will put players in the combat boots of a 25-year-old Lt. Kerry on Feb. 28, 1969, the date he earned his Silver Star citation.
Players will have the opportunity to view and participate in the action from Kerry's perspective, up to and including the point where Kerry beached his swift boat on the banks of the Mekong and chased down the enemy on foot.
The game comes courtesy of Kuma Reality, a New York City game developer that specializes in creating games -- or what it calls "interactive reporting" -- based on real-life battles.
Kuma's recent titles include episodes based around medal recipients including Pat Tillman, the former pro-footballer killed in Afghanistan, and Marine Capt. Brian R. Chontosh, a Navy Cross winner in Iraq.
According to Kuma CEO Keith Halper, a game about Kerry's Silver Star actions was a no-brainer.

Shoot pajama clad teenagers (and bloggers) in the back...
So now MSN is fronting for Kerry?
Self-inflict your way to Purple Hearts! Win medals that don't exist!
John Kerry, action hero. Puh-leeeeeeeeze.
Can the video hero get rice blow up his butt?
Does the action include post-war activities?
Write self-aggrandizing after-action reports! Recreate battles for your Super-8 camera! Have only one of your 23 fellow skippers willing to endorse your candidacy!
Hey! They stole your idea!
The Kerry Game has been out for years. It's called Dungeons and Dragons.
How many VC on the beach before Kerry orders his boat to be turned in? Is there intense enemy fire toward the Swift boats? If so, the game contradicts the after action reports that we are aware of.
What key do you hit to make the dog fly?
So, what is the object of this game... to get out of veitnam as quick as possible and become an anti- war activist? I suppose the the fake hero gets a hairy liberal 'vegan'girl that looks like jane Fonda at the end.
Interesting web site. The Kerry campaign must have paid them to do this, because I doubt whether this Kerry game is likely to appeal to their typical clientele.
I heard there is a 2nd part coming out soon:
--Travel to France to meet with the NV communist
--Attend indoctrination sessions hosted by the NV
--'Coach' fake Vietnam Vets to lie about war atrocities
--Film movies to torture the POWs with over in the Hanoi Hilton
No brains indeed.
Kuma? Yeah, this sounds like something they would do.
They're well known for making games "ripped from the headlines." i.e. quickly made, rather lackluster first person shooters. Unfortunately, I don't think that many Kerry supporters are playing FPSs so I'm not sure who they are trying to market this to.
Weren't we just joking about this a short while ago?
Somewhere in one of my Vicodin-addled fogs, I do believe so.
Creepy, ain't it?
Dang. Hang in there, man, I consider you too good to lose. There's a lot unsaid about the sheer power of pure stubbornness. Nothing confounds one's enemies like surviving. He who gets to pee on the last grave wins.
If the game is based on official records, why don't I see any ARVN troops in the screenshots?
