Simple: drop AOL. Parental control software is inexpensive, or even free. Go to tucows.com or a similar site and you'll probably find a bunch of free downloads.

Yes, call them up and cancel your membership.

Why anyone uses AOL in the first place is beyond me.

No. Even if you call and cancel it's likely they'll keep billing you for months and months and months.

Get rid of AOL, but tell them why.

You won't miss it, and you'll most likely save a little money too.

Advertising is SOLD on AOL, just like most other Internet spots. The links have been paid for, by the folk to whom you are directed to visit.

IMO, just go to the polls and vote for W, and take some friends to do the same...it's an election season, and you will see plenty more. I read yesterday, that sKerry and the Dims have taken in $100 million more than Pres. Bush and the GOP.

The Dims have the press on their side. We have the truth!

Disconnect AOL and get a cable or dsl connection.

Make a folder in your favorite places and tell son that only the site that are in the folder are ones that he can go to. The first time he goes to new site that he must call you to check it first and then can put it into his folder.

Check on the available parent control freeware/shareware out there also. I prefer to closely monitor my son's internet usage (he's 8) but yours may be older.

Good luck - I enjoy my internet much more since I have left AOL and went to cable.

Dump AOL. Simple as that. Find a local "mom and pop" type ISP and give them your business. Just my opinion.

If you actually get a human on the phone at AOL, expect a heavy Indian accent. Their Customer Service office is somewhere in India.

Call AOL in the middle of the night, if you want to reach a human, and tell them you want to disconnect. Ask them which billing cycle they are in and when you can expect them not to charge your charge card Then call your credit card company and inform them that you will protest any charges made from AOL after that date.

Dump AOL; they're garbage ISPs, and in league with lib-dem scum.

Parental control software is freely available at ZDNet.com, News.com and Tucows.com download sites.

When you call to quit, also send a certified, sig-requested return, letter so you'll have documentation that you've quit using their trash service. State names and dates and times of ending service, for the record.

I have several customers whom I've gotten off the AOL horror show, who've experienced continued billing for months. Attaching documentation to the bill and returning it to AOL, unpaid, quickly ends that fraudulent scenario.

I once had a dispute with them about a really annoying policy that made it very awkward to spin off my daughter's account when she started her own household. My son in law was billed repeatedly for my account. When I asked who I could complain to they could barely conceal their mirth as they gave me Steve Case's email address.

AOL is distant history for me. Good riddance.

I wrote to them that I was quitting their service due to their left-wing bias and they gave me a free month. But I'm still searching for another internet provider.

The ONLY reason I keep them is so my son can use their Kids AOL and their parental control features.

If security and control are your concern, other ISPs have it, and better than AOL. If features are your concern, let your son pick a new ISP. Ten bucks says he has one lined up.

AOL is crack for the willfully computer-illiterate.
