RATHER FORGES AHEAD
New York Post ^ | 9/11/04 | DDEBORAH ORIN and VINCENT MORRIS

Posted on 09/11/2004 12:19:33 AM PDT by kattracks

September 11, 2004 -- CBS anchor Dan Rather hung tough last night and insisted there's no "definitive evidence" to refute the authenticity of documents about President Bush's National Guard service — but a growing number of document experts smell a hoax. "If any definitive evidence to the contrary of our story is found, we will report it. So far there is none," Rather insisted.

He produced a man named Marcel Matley as the document vetter.

But Matley is primarily a handwriting expert whose expertise in document evaluation has been challenged by the head of the American Board of Forensic Document Examiners.

Matley spoke only about a signature and initials purported to be those of the late Lt. Col. Jerry Killian — "they are his signatures" — though two of the four memos are unsigned.

Rather also acknowledged CBS has no originals, only photocopies.

Allan Haley — a typeface expert at Agfa Monotype — said anyone who claims to definitively authenticate a photocopy "is either guessing or is a fool."

In another challenge to CBS, Killian's boss, retired Maj. Gen. Bobby W. Hodges, told ABC News that he regards the documents as a computer "fraud," never saw them in the 1970s and didn't validate them for CBS.

A senior CBS official had claimed to the Washington Post that Hodges had validated the documents.

During his national news broadcast, Rather claimed "partisan political operatives" are challenging the memos but omitted the fact that Killian's widow and son dispute them.

There isn't much easily found information on her. I will keep digging later today. I need to leave for a couple of hours, but I am not giving up on this-

Appreciate it- I'd dig myself, but have hurricane preparations ( and a leaky roof! ) to try to wrap up today. Thanks!

What about analyzing the paper itself? FWIW, we have an old IBM Selectric II at work that doesn't have any teeny "th"s on it.

CBS and Dan Rather's is using handwriting expert Marcel Matley to stall for time. c.f. link posted by Dog .

Marcel Matley has even written an article about how to stall for time. The second line of Matley's article is... "How to hold off your opponent until the cavalry arrives" and in the last paragraph... "At least with the above you will have hopefully survived the day..."

I guess the liberal morons have been caught in another lie.

Here is the Yahoo Search on Mary Mapes Abu Ghraib. There are a ton of references to the combo:

Phil Dragoo has provided us with the incredible link below that will show us how the forgery was done.

Go to the link and just sit back and watch the forgery recreated in about one minute.

This looks like it could clean out Rather, the front office, and anyone above the rank of mop boy at CBS. I just don't see what CBS is gaining here. They'll go from just another news organization that made a mistake to widely hated scumbags if they keep it up. I cannot believe they haven't jerked Rather off the stage!

There isn't any doubt these memos are fake and connected directly to the Dims.

Will bloggers and key-board detectives be more credible if we wear suits while pounding the keys? LOL

He clearly intended the term to include them. If you don't accept his reporting uncritically you're an enemy agent.

Better, in today's Washington Post Rather HIMSELF names Hodges:

Rather Defends CBS Over Memos on Bush

excerpt:

In an interview, Rather stressed that CBS had talked to two people who worked with Killian in the Texas Guard -- his superior, retired Maj. Gen. Bobby Hodges, and his administrative assistant, Robert Strong -- and both described the memos as consistent with what they knew of Killian. Hodges, who told CBS he was "familiar" with the documents, is an avid Bush supporter, and "it took a lot for him to speak the truth," Rather said.

Oops...Rather spoke before Hodges spoke out.

"Will bloggers and key-board detectives be more credible if we wear suits while pounding the keys? LOL"

One of the funniest things happened to a family we know a couple of years ago.

Their son at that time worked for the Border Patrol, and he was visiting his parents for a Holiday. At about 2 am his sister came in to his room and said someone was trying to break in her window.

He got his Glock and went outside. He took the crowbar away from the perp (an illegal alien), and told the perp to lay down on the ground with his hands clasped over his head. He had to say it in Spanish. At that time his Dad a retired Air Force office came out with his Colt 45.

In the meantime the Mother/Wife was calling 911. The 911 operator asked for the description of the perp. She said he was the one with his clothes laying on the ground in his urine soaked pants. The two guys in their underwear with guns were her son a Border Patrol officer, and her husband a retired AF Officer. The operator broke up laughing.

A couple of minutes later two cops showed up, and they started laughing at the sight of two guys in their underwear with guns over the quivering thug with his urine soaked clothes. The wife and daughter had their robes and slippers on and were watching the guy lay there and listening to him cry.

The son said that was the easiest arrest he ever made with an illegal alien, and he did it with just his underwear and his Glock.

namely that the potential forgery of the CBS Bush guard documents was spotted so quickly on the Web that the person who spotted it ("Buckhead," poster #47 at Free Republic) must have been tipped off in advance.

Are they for real?

That is neat, humor like that is humor because it is a parody of truth.
