Hate to say it, but Phil is ripe for plucking. His margin of victory had been getting narrower each year. If he does win, the RNC needs to sit him down for a chat regarding gracefully serving out his final term.

Crane was up for a major post in 2000 if I recall, with the reshuffling of the chairmanships. I think it was Budget head. But he was passed over at the time for a much more moderate Republican. I recall National Review being up in arms.
