CBS/AP) Questions are being raised about the authenticity of newly unearthed memos that say President Bush's National Guard commander believed Mr. Bush was shirking his duties.

The memos, which were obtained by CBS News' 60 Minutes, say Mr. Bush ignored a direct order from a superior officer and lost his status as a Guard pilot because he failed to meet military performance standards and undergo a required physical exam.

I'll bet it was so much fun for the CBS people to post this on their very own website. :)

Now when you report this as truth, you might feel a little sting. That's just pride f---ing with you.

They have just proven that C-BS is in collusion with the evil dums. They recycled the lies as fact.

And meanwhile, Rather states that he stands by the story, and that the documents are real, something he COULD NOT KNOW given that 2 of them are neither signed nor on letter-headed paper indicating their provenance.

I predicted this last night. D**N but these people are so predictable.

There is also word out that the Colonels' wife has said her husband DOESN'T KNOW HOW TO TYPE, and hand wrote all his memos.

2 flame outs in one broadcast for ole Danny Boy. The Guard files were frauds AND Ben Barnes was LYING... according to his own daughter! Not bad for one show...

The network defended the autheniticity of the memos, saying its experts who examined the memos concluded they were authentic documents produced by Lt. Col. Jerry Killian.

Shame on CBS!

Dear Freepers, please click on the above link, then scroll all the way down to the bottom of the page and click on the JAVA line "Contact Us." A window will open in which you can send a message/complaint to your Choice of CBS news organizations.

I told CBS that they were now endangering the entire networks good name by their statement in this story and what they were doing was truly strange in light of all of the information that has come to light about the high probability that this is a forgery.

This CBS article is in the order of "I shot the Sheriff, but I did not shoot the deputy....." Most of the article repeats the attacks on Bush. It only says that the documents are "questioned," not that they are likely or almost certainly forgeries.

Likewise on the Ben Barnes charge, the story conveniently ignores the fact that Barnes was in Europe when Budh joined the Texas Guard, nor that Barne's daughter quotes him as saying in a phone call that he was willing to lie in order to hurt Bush and help Kerry.

CBS has by no means come clean in this article. All it has done is laid the groundwork for coming clean, if the backlash forces it to do that.

Former Lt. Gov. Ben Barnes — then the 29-year-old speaker of the Texas House — told CBS News Anchor Dan Rather that he used influence on Mr. Bush's behalf at the request of a Houston businessman friendly with the Bush family, oilman Sid Adger.

Um, as of yesterday, weren't they claiming Barnes held some other office at the time that he got Bush into the NG? Lt. Gov. maybe? An office that he didn't hold until a year after Bush signed up. Somebody refresh my memory on this.

Rush just said that Rather was on the news standing by the documents.

CBS should jump on this story. (Retract if necessary.) Then the story "How I Got Hoaxed and Fell For It" by Dan Rather would get really high ratings. I suppose the store of the supposed forgery is much more interesting than the supposed contents of the supposed memos were supposed to be. (A truly supository sentence.)

CBS researches should have asked themselves if the memos were real, why weren't they used in 1992 when they could have been more effective. I think CBS wanted a scoop and just fell right over.

There is also word out that the Colonels' wife has said her husband DOESN'T KNOW HOW TO TYPE, and hand wrote all his memos.

That fits with the times. I took a typing class in high school in 1964 and it was overwhelmingly female. I only remember a couple of guys taking the course. The thinking back then was that secretaries, not bosses, did the typing.
