Our own Congressman BillyBob debated Kerry at Yale and does not have a high opinion of Kerry's debating skills.

I think Osterweis probably saw what he wanted to see. That does not make him right in terms of what most Americans might see as good debating skills. I am sure Kerry went overboard to speak with the same cadence and air of superiority that Buckley and his English counterparts had. Put that out to the American people and they probably won't view the skills in the same way Osterweis did.

It is interesting that Kerry used Osterweis, David Calleo and Beekman Cannon as references when he signed his background information sheet for the military in 1966. He is definitely a part of that "elitist" culture that knows nothing of those of us who reside in middle America.

I think if dubya can just work the word "flipflop" into each of his answers..... after about 30 minutes Kerry will explode on national television.... :)

By the time they get into a debate, I think just smiling at Kerry will put him over the edge! LOL.

From my experience with Kerry's debating style, he leads with his arrogance. He doesn't expect anyone to mount a successful challenge to any of his positions because he is, after all, JOHN KERRY. His advisers will tell him to can the arrogance, and act natural and friendly.

Well, Kerry may try to do that, but it isn't in him. Arrogance is his normal state. Natural and friendly are not normal to Kerry. I think he will provide enough glimpses of the real John Kerry to drive his numbers into Dukakis-ville.

Bush has the advantage because he's been speaking on a National Stage for four years. People know what to expect. Nobody really knows what to expect from Kerry and I think all this talk about what a great debater he is could only do him harm.

Yes, you are right. I am very interested in Billy Bob's take on Kerry. Thanks for pointing me to that post, Cyn.

Billy Bob, I believe you are very right and really enjoyed reading your post. :)
