We need to support the orphans of Beslan.

I'm not normally an emotional person, but I researched the orphanages in the Beslan area and became very distraught at what I found. The orphanages are full of love, but dirt poor. They do what they can with the resources that they have which ain't much.

I was thinking about the 322 dead in Beslan. 155 of them were children. That means that about ~150 parents died as well, leaving an overwhelming number of orphans. These children have had their lives changed forever. Our problems seem insignificant compared to them.

Read this adoption story from the local orphanage. http://www.achildwaits.org/Familystories/Stories/McClinton/story.htm

"Seeing her for the first time was so overwhelming. She was so tiny and weak. She was 18 months old and weighed 12 pounds... Leaving the orphanage was bittersweet for us. We were thrilled to have Laura but deeply saddened by the children we left behind. "

Here is A Christian doctors group that helps the area.

Good idea. Hopefully not many had both parents there though.

Thanks for the link. If everyone who posted in the long thread expressing horror at this atrocity sends a donation,it could be quite a lot.

We can make a difference in these poor children's lives. On Tuesday, I am donating money and shipping out toys and clothes.

Please bump this and make other freepers aware.

Ping them if you can.

Maybe there is a freeper somewhere that is even capable of adopting one of these children.

Thanks for putting this up. As hard as 9/11 was, this in many ways is even more diabolical. The past few days I have had to make a conscious effort not to think about what just happened over there because I feel so powerless to help or change things and it is so upsetting. Those that lived through those hellish hours will have unbearable grief to live with the remainder of their lives.

Is there a place to donate directly to help those families involved in that indescribably horrific scene? I know of no other way to help, so I plan on donating.

I didn't find a direct donation link. The following was listed on the donation link to the orphanage. You might want to specify that the donation is for the orphanage in Vladikavkaz.

Firefly Children's Network
P.O. Box 21582
Washington, DC 20009

To donate by credit card, please call us at (202) 232-5706. We will ask for the following information: name, address, home or business phone, e-mail and credit card info.

I already gave $100.00 tonight. Might give more when I can. I hope so. God bless our poor Russian brothers and sisters. Curse those filthy, cowardly, satanic Muslirats!

Some neighbors down the street from us adopted an 18 month old Russian boy last year. He is the cutest little thing!

I know what you mean. I have been sick and crying everytime time I look at those pictures and then think about my own two-year-old boy. Below is a link for a relief organization directly helping the victims in Beslar. I have just donated $ 200.

eeman, I gave to the one you have the link for (Moscow Help.org- They make it fairly easy to donate). Unfortunately, I'm tapped out for this weeks pay. But next week I will donate to the orphanage.

Thanks for posting these links. It takes some of the edge of the hurt/outrage to be able to do something to help. Prayers for the families of the victims.
