Left wing film-maker Michael Moore faced a barrage of jeers and boos at the Republican National Convention today.
Moore, who fiercely opposes president George Bush, laughed and waved from the upper levels of the hall as he incurred the wrath of delegates.
As the crowd chanted in unison for four more years of Mr Bush, Moore tipped his hat, raised his fingers and replied two more months.
Moore, who was wearing a dark red hat bearing the Stars and Stripes flag, got into the convention with a media messenger pass.
He was earlier denied access to the floor area and escorted away by Secret Service agents and convention security officials who said he had the wrong credential.
Moore hopes that his recent documentary Fahrenheit 9/11 will help oust Mr Bush from the White House in November.
Moore faced the onslaught after Arizona Senator John McCain spoke of the disingenuous film maker, and criticised him for opposing the Iraq war.
Mr McCain told the delegates, at Madison Square Garden in New York, that Moore would have us believe that Saddams Iraq was an oasis of peace.
Rather, Mr McCain said: By destroying his (Saddams) regime we gave hope to a people oppressed.
Mr McCain has notably clashed with president Bush over policy issues in the past.
There were even recent rumours that he may cross the party barrier to become Mr Kerrys running mate.
But he re-affirmed his loyalty to Mr Bush, saying: He has been tested and has risen to the most important challenge of our time, and I salute him.
No American alive today will ever forget what happened on the morning of September 11th.
That day was the moment when the hinge of history swung toward a new era.
The opening chapter was tinged with great sadness and uncertainty. It shook us from our complacency in the belief that the Cold Wars end had ushered in a time of global tranquility.
But an absence of complacency should not provoke an absence of confidence. What our enemies have sought to destroy is beyond their reach.
It cannot be taken from us. It can only be surrendered. Delegates also heard from former New York mayor Rudolph Giuliani, who said Mr Bush is tackling international terrorists just as Winston Churchill took on Hitler.
He spoke at length about the September 11 terror attacks and international terrorism, insisting that Mr Bush was a great leader who would continue his quest to destroy terrorist groups the world over.
The convention is being held just four miles from where the twin towers were destroyed on September 11, 2001.
In his passionate speech, Mr Giuliani said: In times of danger, as we are now in, Americans should put leadership at the core of their decision.
There are many qualities that make a great leader, but having strong beliefs, being able to stick with them through popular and unpopular times, is the most important characteristic of a great leader.
One of my heroes, Winston Churchill, saw the dangers of Hitler when his opponents and much of the press characterised him as a war-mongering gadfly.
Another one of my heroes, Ronald Reagan, saw and described the Soviet Union as the evil empire when world opinion accepted it as inevitable and belittled Ronald Reagans intelligence.
President Bush sees world terrorism for the evil that it is. Mr Giuliani delivered a lengthy personal attack on Mr Bushs democratic challenger John Kerry, portraying him as inconsistent, winning more boos from the crowd.
The gathering, at Madison Square Garden, is being held with just three months to go before the presidential election, when Senator Kerry will attempt to unseat Mr Bush.
Polls have shown the two men at a virtual dead heat.
On Thursday, Mr Bush will address the gathering before accepting the partys nomination for a second term in the White House.
Earlier, there were clashes between a small group of protesters outside the convention hall.
There were no immediate reports of arrests.
Very professional behavior from this "journalist" from USA Today.
not to defend him, but does he ever pretend to be a 'journalist'? his pieces are clearly editorial and opinion...?
I thought he claimed that his movie was a documentary. Not a biased or opinionated frame in it.
Crockumentary, not documentary.
Did you see the blip with Franken?! He was on the floor, and fairly having a frothing fit!
I hope all the delegates got their rabies shots, cuz the Dems are very rabid...
True, but now he's a respected, published journalist working for USA Today. Of course, Ann Coulter working for the same rag at the Dems conventions was considered to be too over the top to actually have her stuff published.
He was treated much better than Rush Limbaugh would've been treated at the Rat Convention.
i think it was when she called the democrats 'spawn of satan' or something.
Interviewed later by Greta on FOX , Mc Cain said he was didn't know Micheal Moore was in the building. Only after he delivered his line and the audiance began pointing at the fat lump of sh*t did McCain realize the lying Rat bastard was also there gleefully basking in the disgust directed at him.
. Or just pretending that it never happened..like the Associated Press did with the boos Vanessa and Alexandra received.
Two more months??? Don't these stupid demonrats ever get anything correct??? Sorry, self-proclaimed intellectual demonrats, but even if Bush loses (God forbid), he has FIVE more months, you ignorant vermin.
LOL. I didn't catch that.
Maybe they use an outcome based calender.
This was the best line of the speech.
