Is 'Not George Bush' Enough?
Washington Post ^ | August 30, 2004 | William Raspberry

Posted on 08/30/2004 12:43:42 AM PDT by Cincinatus' Wife

.....But if Bush is frightening -- in part because he so dogmatically believes what he believes -- Kerry is frustrating and infuriating because he seems not to believe much of anything worth risking offense.

.........No, what infuriates about Kerry is his wish to be all things to all people -- or, at any rate, not to give them any basis for attacking him. He has, as far as I can tell, staked out a single position that might be called controversial: He would repeal the tax cuts for the rich.

But nearly everything else he says or does seems calculated to avoid clear-cut disagreement with people on either side of any issue. Thus he "voted for [the $87 billion supplemental military budget] before I voted against it." Thus he differs with the president on what he would do to extricate us from Iraq, but has offered no discernible policy. Thus he parses every statement to the point where even he must wonder what he said. Thus he (to return to his Vietnam War protest days) didn't return his "medals," but only the "ribbons" that represent them.

And I don't know what to make of the controversy over his wartime heroism and the Swift boat incident, except to say that the details of his indisputably valiant war service more than 30 years ago shouldn't be a matter of significance in this election.

But little things become big issues for Kerry because he refuses to stake out positions on the big things. Maybe, with the polls showing him in a virtual dead heat with Bush, he doesn't want to frighten the "undecideds." Well, if I were undecided (and, frankly, I would be if Kerry were pitted against Bush I instead of his scary son) I'd find Kerry's super-carefulness off-putting. .............

Sounds like 'buyers remorse' is hitting hard over in Democrat country.

Is 'Not George Bush' Enough?

Geez, they're just figuring this out now? What took them so long?

Hopefully, it will set in before the election. John Kerry is Grey Davis on a national level. I wish people could see this. He is totally deviod of any values whatsoever, except his desire to become the President.

Translation:

I am a sentinent adult therefore I nave concluded from overwhelming evidence that Kerry lied for his medals but I dare not say so out of fear for my future career and his. Therefore, I will make the same point about his mendacity but in a policy area where the damage is not serious but which still balms my conscience.

Kerry vacillates so much that even the rank and file are doubtful that they can fully trust him to point the train back towards Destroy Americaville.

I'm glad. May they toss and turn from now until the President's reelection.

All the 'Rats, and Crash McCain, are singing this song, but what's the rationale for it?

At least McCain told Kerry during the primaries to knock it off on the Vietnam talk, but the Rats sure as heck didn't.

I just don't buy the idea that all Vietnam vets are beyond being questioned. I honor them all for serving, but that doesn't give them a pass for falsifying the service records or not allowing their political records to be questioned.

McCain's problem I don't know about (maybe tied in with his devil's alliance with Kerry to normalize relations with NV), but for most of the dems, well, they won the last round, so they think the matter should rest. They aren't the ones who've been seething over it for 30 years.

Bush "so dogmatically believes"; Kerry "seems not to believe"

Throughout the article, Rasberry condemns Bush with facility, but pussyfoots around Kerry's deep flaws. Quit coddling your boy, Mr. Rasberry.

My husband contends that the type of sentiment that Raspberry is expressing will result in people who have said publicly they'd vote for Kerry, in the "secret" of the ballot booth, really voting for Bush.

Hope he's right. Sure sounds like Raspberry has his doubts about Kerry.

As it should, indeed!

The weaker Kerry becomes, the angrier the partisan media will become with him, as they resign themselves to four more years of "BushHitler".

Chris
