CSPAN - The debate over No Gun Ri [ANALOGUE TO KERRY vs SWIFTEES]
C-SPAN ^ | August 28, 2004

In July of 1950, during the first month of the Korean War, near the village of No Gun Ri, U. S. soldiers opened fire on a group of civilians gathered under a railroad bridge allegedly killing anywhere between 50 and 350 civilians. Over 50 years later, debate continues over what really happened. Watch host John Callaway as he welcomes to the Pritzker Military Library Charles Hanley, co-author of The Bridge at No Gun Ri: A Hidden Nightmare from the Korean War, and Robert L. Bateman, author of No Gun Ri: A Military History of the Korean War Incident, as they explore the different historical interpretations surrounding this event.

An interesting comparison with the Kerry falsification now airing on CPSPAN, regarding alleged atrocities during the Korean War. The press appears to have invented atrocities, just as Kerry did. The Koreans who backup the press reports, can be likened to the crew men on Kerry's boat (his so-called "band of brothers"), in that thousands of Koreans claim they lost family members murdered by Americans.--Why? Just as the Koreans are pressing false claims (hundreds of millions of dollars) for reparations during the Korean War, those who side with Kerry have much to gain by siding with him, including becoming celebrities, paid travel all over the country, and the possibility of getting appointments in a prospective Kerry Administration.--In both cases, one can see how personal self-interest is the basis for supporting fabricated stories of Kerry's heroism on the one hand, and Kerry's account of atrocities on the other hand.

This is airing on CSPAN-2 right now. I hope they re-air the whole segment, or it's available on some website. As soon as I find out, I'll post a notice.
