For the Sake of a Shrine
Foxnews.com ^ | August 24, 2004 | Neil Cavuto

I just want to see if I've got this straight: We're being very careful in Najaf not to damage a shrine being used by gunmen trying to kill us?

Last time I checked, shrines were for praying, meditating and maybe even mulling. But not once, to my knowledge, for murdering.

For months now, the revered Imam Ali Shrine has become a fortress: a Koran-bless Alamo. Only the Alamo wasn't a church. Just like this place is no longer a shrine.

S.O.P., once you receive enemy fire from a religious location, all bets are off! ...the next sound you hear will be "doom"...

Interesting that you mention the Alamo. The last remaining section of the Alamo still standing today is in fact the church of the compound.

We need to think long and hard about attacking a shrine.

Or we must be prepared for the offensive forces that are driven from the shrine!

Islam is a religion of oppression, murder, mayhem and torture.

It is only fitting that Islamic terrorists use the most holy shrine in the country as their fort.

Would it be any other way?

But those guidelines only apply to Muslims.

The US must tread lightly because we can't offend anyone's tender sensibilities, even when others of their religion are desperately trying to kill us.

If non-Muslim sites are sullied in any way, there are no repercussions. Recall the seizing of the Church of the Nativity by armed terrorists a few years back. The recent desecration of dozens of Orthodox sites in the Balkans by ramapging Muslims. Church bombings in Iraq and Pakistan. Zero outrage, little concern on the part of international organizations and media outlets.

Trip and fall near one of Islams 764 holiest sites, and it's "Death to the Crusader".

The Chapel is shown in the upper-right corner of the fortress.

Chapel.

I've been a proponent of leveling the mosque, until you brought this up!

If a bunch of Reconquista fools took over the Alamo, I'm not sure I'd want the Marines to level it to get at them either....food for thott.

Isn't there some sort of Islamic law in regards to veneration or idol worship of such things as buildings or statues? Wipe them out and order BLTs all around.

Sorry, but I don't care if the terrorists are hiding in the Taj Mahal, the Sistine Chapel, or the National Archive, give 'em once chance to surrender, then, failing that, LEVEL IT AND KILL THEM ALL!

you surround the mosque with Marines and you send in the Iraqis with Marines as backup...no muss, no fuss...but ya gotta "drain the swamp"...

I can sympathise with what you are saying, and personally have no problems with attacking a Mosque, as I do not regard them as holy in any sense. What we are talking about here is P.R. This is considered by Shia moslems to be their holiest shrine (the burial site of Imam Ali); if we attack it, then those moderate Shia are going to turn against us, and Iraq will become utterly ungovernable. If we cannily expose the manner in which the shrine is being used as a shield, it can undermine the sympathies which al Sadr is gaining.

I repeat, I couldn't give a **** what happens to the Mosque, but most of Iraq is Shia, and they do care.

Maybe if we dumped a few tons of CS dust into it?

I will not sacrifice one Marine for P.R.
We should have finished this job last year!

Tell the Iraqis that they'll have to clean out this mosque or we will!

Too bad chemical weapons have gotten such a bad name.

Tha Alamo was leveled by Santa Ana.

The structure we see today is a re-build.

That being said, I would not want to see it leveled again.

Boss. The rest of the Alamo fortress was leveled. The remaining facade of the chapel section is original...it was not destroyed.
