Kerry was in Cambodia. Christmas Eve, December 5, 1958. The Viet Cong were celebrating groundhog day because it was July 4, 1975. This is seared into his memory.

If you cross the International Date Line going West, then Christmas is celebrated a month later -- in January, so Kerry was in Cambodia on Christmas Day, January 25, just after Nixon was sworn in and sent secret troops to Cambodia.
