He sat in his 10 foot aluminum jonboat 50 miles into Cambodia, Christmas Eve November 22, 1988. He listened to the radio reports of Lindberg crossing the Atlantic earlier in the day. Then Abraham Lincoln came on and denied any Union presence in Cambodia.
Kerry felt it ironic that Lincoln would deny this since there he was drunk and disoriented in a mud shack in Haiti, lying next to a guy named Raoul.
This is seared into his memory.
