You make a good point. Also, one person's snide remark is another person's witty remark. Who's to say that my put down really isn't done as a sarcastic compliment? What, you mean I'm not allowed to say something unless it means exactly what I meant to say? Then John Kerry's toast.

It shouldn't be the public school's job to deal with children's mental and emotional state. Suicide statistics are constantly being manipulated for political purposes. The reason someone commits suicide can be very complex and individual. These are not issues that belong in the public schools.

The last thing we need is to put the government in charge of the mental health of our children. Too many Americans want the benefits of liberty without its responsibility -- not even when it comes to their own children, apparently. That's what's depressing kids if you ask me. They want a mom and a dad who love them and take time with them. They need a caring family more than they need anything else. They are not looking for some idiot one-size-fits-all counseling session handed to them by some moron government social worker.

When I think of bullies I think of Brutus from the cartoon Popeye. Brutus had few brains and could only use power and force to get his way, name calling, put downs, harassment. Kids who get bullied arenÂ’t nerds, some Brutus type could just be jealous. I must agree in one area, and that is about schools. There exceptional site on the internet titled --- bully online--- it is easy locate.
What is interesting is the area's lists where many bullies education is mentioned where many bullies like to be employed in, bullies also are attracted to social work, police work, the justice field as well as the medical field. Not all are bullies in those fields, but bullies will seek these areas out and find their victims there too.
These are all areas where they can find people they can dominate, not nerds --people.
There was a day dad would take junior and teach him a good left hook to put a school yard bully in their place. Whether we feel this was good or bad, the truth is the school yard bully is now hard to keep in check. The school yard bully who has grown up and is an adult still bullies, he cannot punch now either, but has turned to psychological abuse. Yes, tormenting a his victim. Victims not nerds. Bullying has caused the death of children, wives, and people and also has been the cause of workplace violence.
People can be taught to bully by family example, some are socio paths and psychopaths, these types are found in all walks of life.
Bully online is a good site, one parents of free republic can learn to educate themselves and a place where they can learn to protect their children from aggressive personalities who cannot keep themselves in check. Schools, I have to agree, school might not be the perfect place to protect our kids from bullies, since there are high levels of bully personalities in teachers and administrators, a bully will not curtail behaviors where they are able to use and abuse others, no matter the field they work or playground they play in.

My daughters went to a new public school after the district closed their old public school. The old school was okay, and the new school was horrible.

I was with my girls one afternoon when one of the parents started saying the F-word in front of my daughters. I went over and talked to the women and she had all sorts of excuses.

The parents at that school are horrible, the kids are horrible, and the school staff tolerates everything.

We're going to private school.

In TODAYS society, bullying can happen anywhere. People have few limits. Bullying is found in schools, at work, at church ( I just spoke to a former minister who left being a minister because of bullying by more aggressive church attenders).

It is good to understand the reason for bullying, the harm done and how it is necessary to protect your children from aggressive people. Bullies are found in all political parties, all communities. Understanding them is a start to containing them.

After reading the posts I thought posting the site on bullying might be helpful.... some of posters I thought well, a bit bullish in calling kids nerds.

It is a good site and can help people who are in a situation of being bullied, or their children. Bullies do grown up and sadly, many do not change, especially the socio path and psycho path ones.

for girls being bulllied by girls there are some good books which can be located under 'mean girls' in book searches. Men, and women can bully, as well a little girls and little boys.

the f- word is said more often today than before. Myself it is saved for very a special situation and person (two), very limited, very limited, very limited. It is to make a point to them.
