I agree she should be compensated for her extra travel expenses, but not for the suffering aspect.
This should have never reached the court, Air France would have been wise to just pay the lady's expenses and fire their nasty employee.

She wants to sue? I don't think she has a leg to stand on.

NEW YORK -- A limbless woman sued Air France Friday, saying she was prevented from boarding a flight four years ago by an airline employee who insulted her, saying "a head, one bottom and a torso cannot possibly fly on its own."

These thoughts are not aimed at Unknown Freeper.
Some of the comments in this thread are coarse to the point of being sickening. When anti-lawsuit "principles" are so rigid that they brook no allowance for common sense and decency, they're not one bit different from nonsensical liberal positions that are defended no matter what.
If the Air France employee really said such a thing, they should have long since been fired.

Insult aside; this woman clearly could not have imagined or anticipated anything else; but a refusal to board that plane. Why should she expect this treatment? I've seen folks board planes with assistance who were almost dead, then fly by themselves to their destination without issue. Their wheel chairs were folded up and stored until they landed. If she's a Thal. baby, then she's been around awhile and has probably flown before. (I know that this is an assumption, but no more than your assumption that she wouldn't know the deal. And no more than another poster's assumption that she's sued before or that she's even a Brit. Heck, posters here are assuming that she just now filed the suit, when it may have just now been settledafter being filed years before.)
There are silly lawsuits, and then there are those cases that lawsuits were intended to deal with. I don't understand why so many assume the worst. (OK. Yes, I can see why. But it's still not a reasonable habit.) Yes, there are @sses who look for every excuse to sue, but there are also real people with legit claims.

Well said. The knee-jerk reaction that I'm seeing here tonight is not suitable for thinking Americans.

I haven't read all of the responses yet, but she should have filed suit immediately after the incident. I thought with moost torts, you had to file within 1-2 years.
I read the whole article. It says her mom took thalidomide to prevent leprosy?! I thought that was commonly given to expectent mums for nausea, before they realized it was causing birth defects.

saying "a head, one bottom and a torso cannot possibly fly on its own."
why am I laughing
To: passionfruit; MississippiMan; Ann Archy; Marie
That was its intended purpose when it was first approved by whatever toothless regulatory bodies they have over in Western Europe/Canada.
Correct me if I'm wrong, but I think that there is a subsidiary purpose of the drug that wasn't discovered until years after the thalidomide birth defects had made their presence felt, which allowed its use for cancer, AIDS and other chronic illnesses, one of which happens to be leprosy.

The only difference between a dead skunk lying in the road and a dead lawyer lying in the road is that there are skid marks around the skunk

Ninety-nine percent of lawyers give the other 1 percent a bad name.
What happens to a lawyer who jumps out of a plane at 35,000 feet without a parachute?
A: Who cares?
How many lawyer jokes are there?
A:Only three. The rest are true stories.
