GRAND CANYON, Ariz. -- Democratic presidential nominee John Kerry said over the weekend he won't get involved in the fight on the Protect Arizona Now initiative to deny illegal aliens some social services in this state, although last year he called it "both heartless and divisive."
Speaking to reporters from Arizona newspapers on his campaign train Sunday night, Mr. Kerry said states should be allowed to make such decisions.
"It's up to states to decide what the states want to do with respect to their own expenditures," Mr. Kerry said, according to the Arizona Daily Sun in Flagstaff.
Polls show the initiative, which would deny state and local social services to illegal immigrants and require proof of U.S. citizenship before voting, has the support of nearly three-fourths of Arizona voters.
But Mr. Kerry has argued against the initiative.
Last August, he wrote a letter to the Tucson Citizen, signed as a U.S. senator and candidate for president, blasting the initiative. He said it resembled California's Proposition 187, which also sought to deny benefits to illegal immigrants, and which Mr. Kerry said was pushed by "forces of hate and discrimination."

And this joker expects us to think he's gonna be able to make the hard decisions when he's President??
It is to laugh!
This is, in microcosm, what a Kerry presidency would be like.
Fence straddling nothingness.
"forces of hate and discrimination."
Get it right you liberal Mass-hole. It's "mean-spirited and divisive."
(And proudly so...)
Kerry wants to throw money at everything. Only problem it's not his...err...it's Teresas.
The only thing this "bold" decision maker (snicker!) makes a dicisive move on it making other people spend their money.
Typical liberal.
what a 2-faced weasely a'hole
ping
He's still against it , he's lying because 3 out of 4 Arizona voters is for it.
Coward. In all fairness President Bush and Senator John McCain are also against it. But it will pass in a landslide.
He's good as the DNC attack dog. But can he lead? The answer is he didn't lead in the Senate, was a lazy bum who enjoyed gallivanting around Washington DC and Boston, on the make.
Gee, 'heartless and devisive' and uh, 'forces of hate and descrimination'. The jig's up, guys! Kerry's figured out who's to blame here. The VRWC, property owners in border states, taxpayers in same states, taxpayers in general. Which is why he won't reveal his secret plan to RAISE TAXES THROUGH THE ROOF, if elected.
This wouldn't even be an issue if illegals were kept out of the country, and kicked out permanently when they are found. We know GWB would be a disaster in a second term, opening the floodgates, we don't know that someone else wouldn't do something...if for nothing else than to protect jobs and protect the environment.
Does that include abortion?
ROTF, he's flip flopping all over the place! He is just unbelievable...
