Pupil raped by teacher: 'I love her'

GIG HARBOR, Washington (CNN) -- A former elementary school teacher convicted of raping a sixth-grade pupil was released from prison Wednesday, and within hours her victim petitioned the court to lift the no-contact order between them, saying he still loves her. Mary K. Letourneau, who was a 35-year-old married mother of four, pleaded guilty in 1997 to having sexual relations with 13-year-old Vili Fualaau, now 21. She served a seven-year sentence at the Washington Corrections Center for Women after failing to stay away from the teen. Letourneau has two daughters by Fualaau. Fualaau's attorney filed a motion Wednesday to lift a King County Superior Court order barring contact between him and Letourneau. The prosecutor's office said it was deciding whether to ask for a hearing. Upon Letourneau's release, Fualaau said, "I'm kind of nervous. I don't know what my feelings are right now. But I do know I love her." Letourneau, now 42, slipped out of prison before dawn to avoid the media glare. Young men also stood outside the prison gate holding signs that read "I'm 18" and "Take me baby." As a sex offender, Letourneau will have to register with the state and receive court-ordered treatment.

She was ok looking when this all happened, she looks a little worn out, seven years later. She is bi-polar and needs to be medicated to be rational. She never stayed on her medication.

I don't see how the court could keep Faulaau from seeing Letourneau, since he's 21. If Letrouneau is on parole, they can probably make it a condition of her parole that she stay away from Faulaau. But I think she already served all her time and is free-and-clear.

A sad case. The fact that Faulaau is still screwed up 10 years later demonstrates the lasting destructiveness of this kind of abuse.

This is Mary Kay, you may be thinking of the more recent one who looks like Christina Applegate. Either one would do if you're 15, though.

Apparently not, but that's irrelevant.

A 12-year-old's consent to have sex with an adult does not negate the crime of rape.

He was raped, regardless of his opinion in the matter.

Not really a beauty, but that pic here may be from jail. See this thread from Tuesday.
Mary K. Letourneau is a free woman tomorrow [Wednesday]

The NAMBLA members of the democratic party would like you to believe otherwise, however.

An authority figure who lacks sexual boundaries screws up a kids mind....no matter the gender.

He may have had working equipment at 12, but he still had the brain of a kid.

And those 18 year olds holding the signs need to seal the deal by wearing the appropriate clothes....

Bi-polars often don't stay on their meds.

The meds have unattractive side-effects which is part of the motive.

So the bi-polar, (who is feeling better) goes off "just for a while, and then gets all weird and often, paranoid about the drugs.

They need watching.

Well, the mature response I should give...as a parent...is that she is as guilty of statutory rape as man would be had he done it to a young girl.

Speaking as a man pushing 40...but who remembers what it was like to be a 12 year old boy...I have to say "If the kid hasn't gone postal by now, and still wants this woman -- he may be OK with the whole thing."

Seldom do I straddle a fence, but damn if this one doesn't have my jimmies in a bind!

This is just a question to the group.

What kind of father do you believe he will be to his two girls? ANNNNDDD....when they start enter puberty (since he was an 'early bloomer') what do you believe his reaction and/or treatment of them will be?

If she's a convicted sex-offender, how is she going to be allowed to spend time with the children or live with them?
