Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band, the Dave Matthews Band, Pearl Jam, R.E.M. and the Dixie Chicks are among the high-profile artists who will headline a series of concerts aimed at bringing out the Democratic vote in nine states where the presidential race is expected to be particularly close.
The Vote for Change tour, which does not come anywhere near the West Coast, will kick off Oct. 1 and continue through Oct. 8, for a total of 34 shows in 28 cities. The politically charged performers will hit venues in Florida, Iowa, Michigan, Minnesota, Missouri, North Carolina, Ohio, Pennsylvania and Wisconsin.
For their five shows, Springsteen and R.E.M. will team up with John Fogerty and Bright Eyes. Pearl Jam will appear with Death Cab for Cutie; the Dave Matthews Band shows will also feature Jurassic 5 and My Morning Jacket; and the Dixie Chicks are sharing the bill with James Taylor. Old pals Jackson Browne and Bonnie Raitt will perform with Keb' Mo', and John Mellencamp will unite with Kenny "Babyface" Edmonds. Additions to the lineups may be announced later.
The tour is being presented by MoveOn PAC, the political-action arm of MoveOn.Org. All proceeds will benefit America Coming Together, which is working to mobilize voters to elect Democratic candidates to federal, state and local offices in November.
"We're trying to put forward a group of progressive ideals and change the administration in the White House," Springsteen said. "that's the success or failure, very clear cut and very simple."
No comparable pro-Republican tour has been announced at this time.
Tickets for all shows go on sale Aug. 21. For more information about the Vote for Change tour, log on to moveonpac.org.

Ping!
Americans aren't swayed by things like this.
Mostly the bands are brain wahed, misinformed anti-Bushies who for the most part suck ups to thier promoters. There are a few pro-Bush bands and from unforseen punk circles.
Certainly not by this motley collection of has-beens and never-weres to be sure. REM's "Shiny Happy People" is definitely a single to be put onto the collective pyre of bad music. Throw in Springsteen's "The Ghost of Tom Joad" as well.

Usefull Idiot Tour 2004!!!!!!!!!
I remember watching an old British program called "Survivors" which I really liked. I understand they made a second show in 2000 "25 years later". I wonder if it was any good? Do you remember it?? Or do you not watch TV?
Fellow Travellers' Road to Serfdom Tour!!
Rock For the Establishment 2004. I'd like to tell them, "Oi, idiots - you're playing for the benefit of a fellow who is part of the Massachusetts liberal establishment, and has been in the Senate for 20 years, against a relative neophyte in the political order. You think you're the rebels?"
They wouldn't be able to answer - if one wants to look for the most shallow kinds of stupidity, it's found often in the entertainment business.
