An American died in Iran for Freedom
Various | August 5th, 04 | self

Posted on 08/04/2004 10:06:30 PM PDT by Khashayar

Yesterday in history, was the 100th anniversary of the Iranian Consitutitional Revolution in 1904. The war for freedom lasted 5 years. Iranians were the first Asian nation that uprised against the dictatorship of the rulers. They protested againt the Qajari Kings and the rule of Radical Islam. And they successfully made the first Asian Parliament and make the king respect the Parliamentary system.

Good to know that an American Teacher died in clashes with Kings forces while helping Iranian constitutionalist forces in city of Tabriz. Iranians still pay tribute to his grave in that city and are thankful for his help. This is the story of him. And a piece of an Iranian paper which praised him as if he was an Iranian fighter. Howard Baskerville from Nebraska, was the teacher of Memorial School in Iran in early 20th century and he joined the freedom fighters at the age of 23. He established a team of warriors and named it as "Rescue Squad". He was the first person who died in battle for freedom and his squad achieved most dangerous tasks that day. He voluntary helped the Iranian freedom fighters.

The story in the article from Persian Newspaper Printed in Iran yesterday praises him and his works.

Howard Baskerville

Grave of Howard Baskerville in Tabriz, Iran

Baskerville served with the Presbyterian mission in Tabriz. "At the height of the anti-American sentiment in Iran during the 1980's, the tomb was always covered with yellow roses, ..... no one claimed any knowledge of who had placed the flowers on any particular day, but... the tomb always had fresh flowers on it." And still does.

There is a long history of friendship and understanding between Iranians and Americans. Iran was the greatest ally the United States ever had before the 1979 revolution. Personally i think that the 1953 overthrow of Dr. Mossadeqh, followed by pulling support for the Shah of Iran led to a radically anti-Iranian Islamist government taking shape in Iran.

Iranians and Turks are the only non-Arabs in the middle east. According to expert Michael Rubin Iranian populace is the most pro-US in the world. Having visited 5 times in the past several years i'd have to agree. Supporting a Democratic Iran is the only viable solution.

The EU is supporting the Iranian government for Oil interests, something everyone is guilty of.. isn't it time to stop the mass propaganda and start supporting the aspirations of a vastly pro-US Muslim Population?

Quoting Dr. Ledeen.. Faster, please.

Absolutely! Thanks for the post and the ping.
BTW, I have an absolutely beautiful Tabriz rug
that I would NOT give up for anyone. It means
a great deal to me. It's not just the beauty of
the rug. I bought it in early 1980...much was
going on at the time, and much has been going on
since then. It serves as a reminder...

I found a great source for rugs, but I'm afraid to buy anything from him. His site says he has connections inside Iran with the weavers and I'm worried that he might be connected with the mad mullahs. I won't give a dime of my money to anyone who supports them.

I absolutely love Persian rugs, but as you state, sources can be questionable. One wing of my family has distant relatives there who are US citizens, and if we get lucky, they bring one or two back with them when they travel. It's too bad Iran ended up as it has. Everyone I've known from there absolutely loves the USA, and they absolutely hate what the Mullahs have done to their reputation and livelihoods.
