9/11 Report Calls for Hiring Imaginative Evil People

(2004-07-22) -- The 9/11 commission report released today blames the 2001 terror attacks on a "failure of imagination" among government officials, and urges intelligence agencies to "hire more evil people who could effectively anticipate acts of unrestrained wickedness."

According to the report, America is vulnerable to terrorism because the CIA and FBI are filled with "patriotic people of integrity who have a hard time imagining the kinds of twisted and macabre things which are the stock-in-trade of terrorists."

The report recommends that intelligence agencies recruit and hire "a new generation of heartlessly wicked and depraved agents and analysts who can stay a step ahead of Usama bin Laden and his imitators."

There is more truth to this than perhaps they realize. Part of the intelligence craft is to get inside the adversary's head and understand how he thinks. This does not require being similarly immoral, but it requires an understanding of the direction in which moral bankruptcy might take one's thinking. This is what Churchill meant by the need for an "original and sinister touch" in confronting true evil. The "back" propaganda used against the Germans in World War is a good example. Modern PC-minded public relations droids would faint dead away at some of the tactics that were used. Some of it was almost diabolically cruel and ingenious, including such things as planting rumors of epidemics at home in an effort to demoralize German soldiers at the front, and launching false rumors of sexual depravity to undermine the reputations of enemy leaders (sometimes the rumors were true, which helped).

One high-minded British official was appalled when he was shown some of the plans for covert propaganda. He said he would rather lose the war than resort to such methods. Admittedly, it wasn't nice, but war isn't nice, and it wasn't much compared to Auschwitz.

"a new generation of heartlessly wicked and depraved agents and analysts...

Surely there are some Democrats working at the CIA and FBI.

We have authors out here, who do that stuff. Ing, Countz, Cussler,& Clancy pop to mind.
A bureau, to read the "half baked ideas" of field Law Enforcement & field spooks, also citizen e-mails, wouldn't hurt.

I guess that makes me an evil genius also ...

I have some scenarios where they could bring down the economy of the USA with about 100 jihadists.
The soft underbelly is the huge debts of the general public. Disrupt business for 90 days or more and watch the house of cards fold up.
20 million people not able to pay their mortgages or credit cards or get gas to go to work where there is no electricity or computer service anyway
Simultaneous attacks on key soft targets involving energy production, pipelines, refineries, com lines, powerlines and generators.
Couple that with bombings of shopping malls just before Christmastime , then just phone in daily bomb threats .

Cha Ching .... thud

I already have one target in mind that would set the West back into the dark ages - and Clancy et al have missed it.

Not telling here either. No need to give anyone ideas.

To end the "group think" problem, a Single Top is NOT the answer. The "declined ideas" must be fed to another office for a re-think & possible "end around" Forward.

We're ahead of the commission's recommendation. We've got Abu Graib, or however you spell it.

I know I have several ideas (drive by two near my house every day) that would slow things dwon a bit. Have another that would disrupt a major city. Have another that would impact most of the East Coast down for awhile.

I'm sure we all have some ideas that we get when we see how free and open our country is.

The part that is hard for me to understand is why we didn't see terrorism a long time ago here (other than a few bombings). And why we haven't seen any since 9/11.

Some of these ideas wouldn't take any coordination with other people or lots of money.

Hopefully it is because individuals don't do it - they are part of a group. Groups that give hints or are watched. Or maybe the terrorists want to go after the next "big thing", rather than some of the nuts and bolts that would really screw us over.

That said however, watching those towers come down three years ago I thought to myself and said to my family that "everything has changed". I thought that with all the financial stuff and commerce that went on in those towers our economy would be devestated. I thought Wall Street would be down for weeks. Of course things aren't the same after 9/11 - but the economy isn't the total train wreck I thought it would be.

I was amazed at the "can do" attitude of those companies that lost so many people. And the redundancy of the system that got it up and running again.

Hopefully I will be surprised again at redundancies after the next terrorist attack.

And perhaps open their minds to imagination with some illicit chemicals?

Hire more evil people?

KEERIST haven't we got enough Democrats in high office as it is????

James Woods has a mindset that is more appropriate than watering down our government with more incompetence.

"Kill the terrorist, and keep killing them until they no longer exist, for as long as a terrorist exists we are going to live in a world with terror".

If evil is what they want, along with the consequences of evil, they should hire Bin Laden and send money to him.

On the other hand, people who really try to be good have an ability to put themselves in the shoes of their adversaries.

My suggestion...? Hire combat engineers (combat type--not construction).

Think he's on a book signing tour in Europe, but Mrs. Dr. Evil is in the Senate.

Heck, I can think of one scenario that would only take 5-6, and they wouldn't even have to take much personal risk!

This seems link the appropriate time to provide a link to AN OLD FAVORITE.
