Rep. Foley Longs for Good Old Days of Furniture Thieves

U.S. Rep. Mark Foley today had this to say about the diciest Democrat du jour:

"What in heaven's name was he thinking? What is so important that he would risk both his reputation and prosecution to remove these documents? What's there to hide?" stated Foley, R-Fla.

"There is no one with his experience who can claim that these are the actions of an absent-minded employee.

"Sandy Berger knows better.

"And we thought it was bad when they were only stealing furniture."

What about all the 'W' keys from the White House computers? Have we checked anyone's pants for those?

What furniture? Don't you remember the Clintons absconding with whitehouse furniture when they left?

I have a quewstion. Why isn't there an investigation into the whereabouts of the hundreds of FBI files that the Clintons received on the Republicans in congress? Those were also classified documents, and have never been returned.

CBSNEWS ^ | Monday, February 5, 2001
WASHINGTON, Feb. 5, 2001 AP (CBS) Among the gifts that former President Clinton kept as personal presents when he left the White House were $28,000 worth of furnishings given to the National Park Service in 1993 as part of the permanent White House collection, the Washington Post reported Monday. The news follows an announcement by the Clintons on Friday that they would pay back $86,000 for various gifts they received in 2000, less than half the value of the $190,000 in gifts they kept when leaving the White House. At issue in the latest case is whether the gifts ...

ABCNEWS ^ | Monday, February 5, 2001
Feb. 5 — Thousands of dollars worth of gifts the Clintons took with them were meant to stay at the White House, The Washington Post reports today.     Specifically, $28,000 worth of furniture donated to the National Park Service — and intended to remain in the White House, regardless of its occupant — managed to slip into the Clintons' collection, the Post says. The gifts were given as part of a highly publicized $396,000 redecoration. Asked today whether the Clintons should give back the furniture, President Bush continued his post-election policy of refusing to comment on the controversies that have ...

Clintons Took Furniture Meant for White House, Donors Say When the Clintons left Washington two weeks ago, they took at least $28,000 in property that was part of the permanent White House collection. The furnishings were donated as part of a White House redecoration project early in President Clinton's first term. But the donors now tell the Washington Post that Bill and Hillary wrongly presumed the donations were personal gifts that instead belong to the taxpayers. "Two of the furniture makers whose donations Clinton took with him ... say they gave them to the White House as part of a ...

WHEN President Clinton left office, he took with him $28,000 (£19,100) of household furniture that officially belonged to the White House, according to a damaging press report. On January 19 Mr Clinton signed a disclosure statement identifying $190,027 in gifts that he was keeping, but included on the list were several valuable items that donors said had been intended for the White House, not the Clintons, The Washington Post said. The gifts in question were all donated in 1993, as part of a White House redecoration project, and included a set of drawing room furniture, a kitchen table with chairs, ...

For a second, I thought this threat was going to be about TOM Foley. I was like 'WTF? This guy still thinks he's relevant? Is he even still alive?'
