Socks, Lies, and Videotape - What did Sandy steal and why did he steal it?
Various | 7/20/2004 | GLDNGUN

My, my, how are the democrats going to spin this mess?

This investigation has been ongoing for months, and yet Kerry kept Berger on his team. NOW Berger resigns, obviously under pressure. But Team Kerry was saying that there was absolutely no reason for Berger to quit or get fired right up until he resigned. Sen. Joe Lieberman, D-Conn., when asked whether Kerry should dump Berger, the former rival said, "That's up to John Kerry, but I'm sure he will stay on the team unless there's some charges that are proven that leads Senator Kerry to do otherwise."

it's not looking good for Kerry. Some GOP senators are even suggesting that Kerry has already used the stolen info for political gain. Ouch. And right before the democratic convention. Ouch.

Of course the democrats main talking points now are (1) Why is this leak coming out now?! (as if leaking a story about a government official stealing classified docs is worse than the crime itself) and (2) He did NOT stuff docs in his socks! Maybe Berger can hire Johnny Cochran to be his lawyer and have himself "try on" the documents. His mantra can then be "if the docs don't fit you must aqcuit!" and "There were no docs in his socks!"

In response to the first talking point, CNN's gov. source says this was NOT a timed leak and that the White House was not even aware of the probe, although the 911 commission was notified.

In response to the "no socks" defense, perhaps we need to see a videotape. Surely, it exists. Else, how would we know that he stuffed them anywhere in his clothing? Berger's defenders are vehement about the socks, though. I think they want us to picture a guy sitting barefoot in his suit at a desk, ramming docs into his socks. They want to say that it's ridiculous. Yes, that would be. But what is more likely that he did that sources are saying is "putting docs in his socks" is wrapping some docs around his lower leg(s) INSIDE OF HIS PULLED-UP SOCK(S). After all, you can only stuff so many docs into your jacket and pants without looking obvious.

Oh, the third demo talking point will be that these docs weren't really that important and that the Archives has other copies, etc. Is that so? Why isn't the media stressing the following..."A government source said some of the documents at issue were classified as "code word" materials -- the highest level of secrecy in the U.S. government, held more closely than nuclear secrets.

Now why does Sandy need to steal our most important codes? Codes even MORE important than our nuke secrets. I didn't even know there was anything more important.

I believe Sandy is going down and dimwit Kerry didn't let go of this anchor soon enough. Sorry, John, have a nice dive.

Maybe Hillary leaked this info to take Kerry down with Berger...could be an interesting convention. :-)

Lucky-to-have-only-been-Impeached before the 911 Commissioner with Sandy Burglar:
[quietly, out of the side of his mouth]
"Are you absolutely positively certain you took
ALL of the important classified revealing documents?
If they catch you and you want to stay out of Fort Marcy Park,
better tell them, 'IT DEPENDS ON THE MEANING OF SOCKS'
"

"the highest level of secrecy in the U.S. government, held more closely than nuclear secrets."

More closely than nuclear secrets? That's not very comforting...

Fox is the only media on record reporting that Berger's lawyer stated he put them in his socks....

"Berger and his lawyer said Monday night he knowingly removed the handwritten notes by placing them in his jacket, pants and SOCKS, and also inadvertently took copies of actual classified documents in a leather portfolio."

Wasn't that the Clinton's cat's name? How prophetic.

The story was just on Fox. The story the Dems are sticking to is that the whole thing was innocent and inadvertent. Just a slight mistake.

After twenty years working a SCI program it had me screaming at the TV. Inadvertent, please!!! Any military person would end up in Leavenworth and lose their retirement over this.

This is also the same group that said national sovereignty was a thing of the past, that the US should not be the sole super power and I did not have sex with that woman, Monica Lewinsky. I would expect nothing more than the absolute rock bottom for anyone associated with the Clintons. History will show the the only mistake the GOP make was underestimating the vastness of the Clinton rot.

Mrs. Submareener says: "This is big! Much bigger than Dicky Morris getting his toes sucked, or Bob Bechtel ratting out a prostitute who was trying to blackmail him."

What do you think the media reaction would be if Condie Rice was caught stuffing top secret archives in her bra and panty hose? They'd have the rope out, the tree primed and the horse ready.

Those of us that have worked in and around highly restricted material KNOW that compromising "code word" level secretes can cause a person to become permanently unavailable for comment.

Also, the first question I have is how was he able to get away for so long? My second question is that if the librarians observed him taking documents, why did they not stop and search him - preventing him from taking them in the first place.

>>I believe Sandy is going down

Don't bet on it. There has been one case of treason after another under this administration (beginning with, say, McDermont), yet Bush and Ashcroft have not indicted a single person. Do you think they will magically grow spines?

..."A government source said some of the documents at issue were classified as "code word" materials -- the highest level of secrecy in the U.S. government, held more closely than nuclear secrets."

So maybe it is much bigger than political talking points for Kerry or a cover-up for Clinton. Maybe Berger is on a foreign "payroll."
