SIOUX FALLS, S.D. - The governor shut down the teen section of the South Dakota State Library's Web site, saying it included links to material he doesn't believe young people should see.

Gov. Mike Rounds' move to shut down the entire teen section Monday followed a decision last week by the State Library Board to remove a link to a Planned Parenthood (news - web sites) Web site. While the state board rejected a request to remove the link in April, it reversed itself Friday at the urging of the governor.

Rounds opposes abortion; Planned Parenthood lobbies to keep abortion legal.

"As a parent, I would be very disturbed to have my children connecting to any of these Web sites that are found through the state Web site at this time," the Republican governor said Monday afternoon as links on the library's Teen Center page began disappearing.

Rounds said he will assemble a committee to review the links and see if any can be restored.

In Rapid City, the state's second largest city, about 20 teens rallied at their city's public library Monday, protesting the Planned Parenthood decision.

IMHO, a conservative shouldn't criticize the content of the Web site, but ask why the state continues to waste taxpayer money on a redunant and content-less site.

Here's an odd anecdote for Y'all

In the early 90's I got my mom a computer and modem.
Prior to getting her 'online' on the internet, she used to dial in (via terminal emulation software) to out local library in Ela Township in Illinois. (NW burb)

She somehow managed to find a way to surf the net by going to a gay&lez "library" from the local public library!!!
They had a 'backdoor' to the internet.
She didn't even recognize that it was a sexual deviant library due to her ignorance of the vernacular.
(everything about computers was odd to her at the time)

She used "lynx" a text based browser, though she did'nt know it.

I was amazed when I realized that my mom, completely on her own, had discovered free internet access.
She used to tie up their ONE modem for hours! :-)

I eventually got her 'online' and she found FR, and suggested I visit. I ,in turn, told her about FOX, when there were online streams available. (I got her a dish)

Planned Parenthood Federation of America (PPFA), the nation's oldest and largest abortion provider, is an organization which is supported by U.S. taxpayers. For this reason, it is the most well funded abortion provider in the nation. In the period from 1987 until 1998, Planned Parenthood received a total of $1.4 billion in taxpayer money, according to Stop Planned Parenthood International (STOPP). Contact Bill and Melinda Gates and politely explain to them that they are contributing to the rising breast cancer rates. Ask them to stop funding abortion through their foundation.
