Voter Registration Campaign Focuses On Lawrence's Homeless Population (KC Area Votescam Alert!)
Lawrence Journal ^ | 7/12/04 | Dave Ranney

Posted on 07/13/2004 2:08:37 PM PDT by gopwinsin04

Bruce Martin, a 52 year old who's been homeless on and off for the past few years admitted he hadn't bothered voting in too many elections.'I don't have an address, man,' he said, sitting crosslegged on the grounds of the Community Drop In Center, 214 W. 10th Street.

'I sleep on the rooftops,' Martin said. 'That makes it kind of hard to register.' Not anymore. With some help, Martin along with about a dozen other transient men and women, registed to vote on Monday.

'They can use the Community Drop In Center address if they want to. It's OK,' said Anne Bracker, a member of the center's board of directors and leader of an impromptu campaign to encourage Lawrence's homeless to vote.

Though she's an active Democrat, Bracker said the campaign was not aimed at promoting one party or candidate over another.

Brad Bryant, elections director at the Kansas Secretary of State's office, confirmed Bracker's interpretation of state election laws.

'There is a provision for people who are homeless--hough the word homeless isn't even used--that says the address has to be specific enough to determine what precinct they are in,' Bryant said.

'Community Drop In Center meets that requirement,' he said.

Somebody get this to Rush or Hannity quick and appeal to the Secretary of State himself!

How many of these centers exist in that City? Heck, you can vote in every pricinct where a center exists under a different name (if you were so inclined). I'm sure some Democrat will volunteer his van to drive "homeless" around to each one...

The new Secretary of State's office is now controlled by Rats.

At least they tipped their hand early and told us how they are going to try and fix the Congressional Race in the 3rd District!

They don't need to! Just collect some bums, offer them free ciggies to vote (like last time) and they are good to go.

And of course, it's just a coincidence that Lawrence is in the 3rd Congressional District, where RAT Congressman Dennis Moore has won narrowly the last 3 elections and will face his toughest challenger ever in Kris Kobach (assuming he beats RINO Adam Taff in the primary) this fall. Nope, its just a coincidence.

Homeless people have the same right to vote as anyone else, but this sounds like they're trying to get people registered so that they can fill in absentee ballots for them.

I wouldn't be surprised if this women who is coordinating this campaign just happened to work for the Moore campaign.

It has been an extremely tight district there in Johnson County.

She's just doing her duty and helping the downtrodden!

(and when the absentee ballots are not picked up at the community center by the transient population, she can return them all with votes for Kerry/Dennis Moore)

LMAO guys, I live in KC and am quite familiar with Lawrence.
Don't be worried about the homeless population because I've never seen a significant number of them. Jeez...its not like NYC or DC!!! ;)

I think a court challenge would be the way to go, because the state government is now controlled by Rats.

Homeless people have the same right to vote as anyone else,

But don't you have to vote in the precinct where you live?

"But don't you have to vote in the precinct where you live?"

Yeah, so I guess they have to be deemed to "live" somewhere. I don't have a problem with them being deemed to live in the nearest homeless shelter so long as (i) they meet the citizenship and other requirements for voting (like mental health, I would hope), and (ii) if they actually vote for themselves as opposed to a RAT hack filling out the votes for them or giving them free cigarettes to vote for Kerry.

Frankly, a bigger problem might be the University of Kansas students who actually live in other parts of the state (or maybe even in other states altogether) who may vote illegally in Lawrence because it's going to be a close House race.

I wonder if this pro-voter homeless group is a non-profit group. If so perhaps they should be investigated by the IRS. After all, if a conservative church decides to register its members to vote without mentioning candidates, leftist groups like the Americans United For Separation of Church & State demand IRS audits of churches they don't like.
