Edwards to Iraq?
Town Hall ^ | July 10, 2004 | Robert Novak

WASHINGTON -- Tentative plans are being discussed inside the Kerry-Edwards campaign to send vice-presidential candidate John Edwards to Iraq as soon as possible.

Edwards has not gone to Iraq since the U.S. invasion last year. His visit there would be designed to try to fill the senator's lack of experience in national security policy. It also would provide the campaign with photo opportunities showing Edwards in close contact with U.S. troops in Iraq.

Before he announced his presidential candidacy last year, Edwards declared aggressive action against Iraq was needed because weapons of mass destruction were there. Like John Kerry, Edwards voted for the war resolution but against the $87 billion bill funding the conflict.

Looking at the title I thought it might be satire, an oversized helmet, a ride in a tank and all that.

I can't even bear to think about how they will spin this story. If he hears from 100 soldiers, 99 with positive outlooks and one with negative, guess whose story will come back and be replayed to ad nauseum?

We know that security will be extremely tight, which means many $$ will be spent to protect Mr. Edwards. Why should my tax dollars pay for what is essentially a campaign trip? Who do I complain to about that? Oh, wait, Mr. Edwards is rich. He can pay for it himself.

Right.

I can't believe this was even printed.

Photo ops teaches national security policy?

Oh .... TRY to fill ... etc.

My guess is, the huggy/touchies will increase on his return ... (Oh Johnnie ... I was so ... frightened ...)

Carry on.

Why isn't John Kerry going over, after all he is the "WAR" hero and a want-a-be commander? It's a WAR ZONE, why send a "kid" without any training?

Even Hillry drug her sorry behind over there earing herself the experience of "commander-in-chief"..

Bet this was Hillary's idea...

It didn't do her any good because everyone saw straight through her motives.

And Dubya upstaged her....I loved it.

I heard, edward's is going to Iraq to open a used camel lot franchise. MnM will be his poster fat boy sitting on the back of a camel. I might add, the camel's back would break from all that unwarranted poundage. America first, last and always. Bush/Cheney 2004

Please, please, pleeeese put him in a tank with his head sticking out with all those shiny teeth. On second thought, perhaps he can find an Iraqi OB/GYN to sue.
