In the fashionable spirit of incivility at the murky junction of politics and pop culture, we offer the right-wing side, new-book division, of the latest controversy du jour: Michael Moore Is a Big Fat Stupid White Man, by David T. Hardy and Jason Clarke (ReganBooks, $22.95).
The authors are out to bring down the filmmaker, and they score telling points. Moore does distort the truth willy-nilly, and his highly entertaining films, aimed at a huge political cheering section, are so one-sided no responsible historian of the future would use them as accurate representations of their times.

highly entertaining films???? (though his old tv show TVnation had was pretty fun)
Hardy and Clarke, however, are a bit deficient in the humor department. They seem to have absolutely no sense of irony, and they are just as guilty as Moore is of ad hominem smears. Besides making fun of his girth, they call him a "narcissist" with a "grandiose sense of self-importance" who is "preoccupied with fantasies of unlimited success, power ... " and so on. Hey, the guy makes movies. What do you expect?Did he even read past the book jacket?

You either love it or you hate it.
I'm relating F-911 to "Jackass--The Movie." It's not a documentary, obviously. It's propaganda, but it's so over the top, that it simply qualifies as popular entertainment for the left-wing conspiracy crowd. I've been a believer in dark conspiracies myself--it's deeply ingrained in us Freepers also. I'd hate to have outside censorship stifle our ability to air a conspiracy theory.
I don't want to stifle Moore's silly F-911 either. It's a trap for the left-wing. Already, too many 'Rat politicos have been seen attending and tacitly approving of this movie. It's part of that wacko-wing of the Democratic party, and will ultimately hurt Kerry, just like Al Gore will.
No, Moore paints himself as a crusader, not a filmmaker. He also claims to be the voice of the working man. There's nothing wrong with pointing out that this "man of the people" lives in a multi-million-dollar Upper West Side apartment.
Do you think Fat Bastard would even consider living anywhere else? Except to go to the airport he probably wouldn't step foot in Queens or any of the other boroughs. Why doesn't he live on Staten Island? Plenty of working class folks there. That would be funny. Unless he had bodyguards 24/7 he probably wouldn't last long in any of the outer boroughs.
As a Staten Islander, I heartily concur with your assessment. There is exactly one "working class hero" I can think of who deigns to actually live among the people, and that's the Mets' John Franco, a fellow Staten Islander.
Reportedly he has chewed out his staff for sending a cab instead of a limo to pick him up from the airport.
