Bush Camp Hits Democrats' 'Coalition of Wild-Eyed'

WASHINGTON (Reuters) - President Bush's re-election campaign lumped together vocal outbursts by Democrats Al Gore, Howard Dean and others on Thursday and called them part of John Kerry's "Coalition of the Wild-Eyed."

The Bush-Cheney campaign released a video on its Web Site that played up some of the more strident statements Democrats have made on the campaign trail and declared: "This is not a time for pessimism and rage."

The implication the Bush campaign appeared to be trying to leave was that some of the main boosters of Kerry's presidential campaign are filled with rage and perhaps a bit kooky.

"Today, our campaign is releasing a web video to 6 million of our supporters to show them what we're up against and what we're up against is John Kerry's 'coalition of the wild-eyed,"' said Bush campaign manager Ken Melhman.

Shown is a sound bite from a screaming speech by former Vice President Gore in which he said: "How dare they drag the good name of the United States of America through the mud of Saddam Hussein's torture prison?"

Dean, the former Vermont governor and ex-presidential candidate, is shown shouting: "I want my country back."

A clip from an anti-Bush ad from the liberal organization MoveOn.org blends images of Adolf Hitler and Bush.

Hollywood director Michael Moore, who produced a controversial anti-Bush movie called "Fahrenheit 911," is seen telling the Academy Awards that, "We live in a time where we have a man sending us to war for fictitious reasons."

"This president is a miserable failure," says Missouri Democratic Rep. Richard Gephardt in another film clip.

And finally, Kerry is seen telling a campaign event in Iowa: "Today, today, George Bush will lay off your camel, tax your shovel, kick your (bleep) and tell you there is no Promised Land."

A graphic at the end shows Bush with the words: "It's a time for optimism, steady leadership and progress."

The Kerry campaign said it was "unfortunate that George Bush thinks it's appropriate to display images of Adolf Hitler on his Web Site."

"This is the kind of tactic you use when you can't run on your record. We agree that this isn't a time for rage or pessimism which is why America can't afford to let George Bush have another four years in the White House," said Kerry spokesman Phil Singer.

The Democrats are just embarrassed that the supposed "leaders" in their party look like lunatics to us ordinary Americans. I think Al Gore looked positively frightening during his ranting. I personally think that Bush should make a good ad showing the loons who want to run this country.

I love how the wire service "hard news" stories always try to impute motive when it is a republican. Some people call it *editorializine*. Others call it what it is -- *bias*.

It is incredible. Bush campaign uses the Rats own words, and it is Pres. Bushes fault. I guess he is playing dirty by showing the true Democrats.

Ahh, the old "I'm rubber you're glue" defense.

Anytime a Dim knows that he is being shown for what he is, he starts crying about changing the tone. They love to call W a liar and a charlatan, but crank up the whining when they are hit back.
