Saudi Arabia is kind of like an evil non alcoholic "Cheers." You are "where everyone knows your name." They don't gossip, but they seem to know everyones businesses.

One of the first questions I asked when I got there is why rewards for turning in criminals don't work there. It seems that if a person turns in a criminal, Saudi security agents severely interrogate them on how did they come to know the criminal's location. The informant is is almost the same amount of trouble as the the person they turned in.

When I was in 1st or 2nd grade in Catholic school in NYC we had a disaster drill in the case of an atomic explosion...we had to crouch under our desks and cover our heads with our arms...it was the 50's and the Soviets were considered a very literal threat...Sister Ascension would also go around the room and ask each of us whether we would say 'yes' or 'no' if the Russians asked us wheteher we believed in God...of course I proudly proclaimed that unlike Peter I would not deny Jesus but say 'yes'...in the meantime inside my head I was thinking that I'd say no, run far enough away from the Russian, and then turn around and let them know that I'd tricked them...urban Irish kids were taught quite young how to fake out the enemy...LOL!

BTW I think Jesus would be inclined to want you to survive and protect your children...guess it depends on what you believe...the important thing is to not betray your beliefs.
