WASHINGTON A group of 26 former senior diplomats and military officials, several appointed to key positions by Republican Presidents Ronald Reagan (news - web sites) and George H.W. Bush, plans to issue a joint statement this week arguing that President George W. Bush (news - web sites) has damaged America's national security and should be defeated in November.

The group, which calls itself Diplomats and Military Commanders for Change, will explicitly condemn Bush's foreign policy, according to several of those who signed the document.
"It is clear that the statement calls for the defeat of the administration," said William C. Harrop, the ambassador to Israel under President Bush's father and one of the group's principal organizers.
Those signing the document, which will be released in Washington on Wednesday, include 20 former U.S. ambassadors, appointed by presidents of both parties, to countries including Israel, the former Soviet Union and Saudi Arabia.
Others are senior State Department officials from the Carter, Reagan and Clinton administrations and former military leaders, including retired Marine Gen. Joseph P. Hoar, the former commander of U.S. forces in the Middle East under President Bush's father. Hoar is a prominent critic of the war in Iraq (news - web sites).
Some of those signing the document such as Hoar and former Air Force Chief of Staff Merrill A. McPeak have identified themselves as supporters of Sen. John F. Kerry, the presumptive Democratic presidential nominee. But most have not endorsed any candidate, members of the group said.
LA Times material must be excerpted, no matter who publishes it. Thank you.
And therein lies the Republican's mistake...the media will handle this issue.
Wow. This is already more press than the Veterans Against Kerry...
If you have openly identified yourself as supporting a candidate, aren't you implicitly endorsing them by making your choice public?
Probably none of the individuals in this group have spent any time with President Bush. All of the swift boat veterans who served with John Kerry and were of the almost unanimous conclusion that his poor character made him unfit for the Presidency were not much of an issue, as far as the media was concerned. So this doesn't seem (to me) to be anything but a stupid PR move designed to try and combat that event.
And, just think, Al Gore was ********VICE PRESIDENT********!!!!!!!
Another typical hit piece by a lousy rag who has a monopoly in LA and yet loses subscribers year after year. They went after Schwartzneggar with a vengeance and look what happened.
Is this the same group that didn't like Reagan's "Tear down this wall" speech?
Stay tuned. These are the acts of deperate people and pathetic individuals who want their 15 minutes of fame. Los Angeles understands this and pimps for them. So will the rest of the liberal spinmeisters. Pay them no heed and continue to lead the charge for W.
Who cares what some Hoar says.
26 assholes who will be "OUT" after the election
How appropriate, his name is "Hoar"
I wonder if some of these guys din't want President Reagan to tear down the wall. But he did.... I can't help wonder why some of them want Kerry to win. What's in it for them?
Looks like you beat me to it. Slow fingers on my part. : )
Talk about minimal, uninteresting, silly soundbite meant to convince the nation that 'elite forces' are against President Bush! LOL
I remember when that really stupid, out of control ex-POTUS and his sidekick, the bellicose and equally shallow al gore, in trying to take down future President Bush in the last election, regurgitated or brought up the petitions signed by HISTORIANS of note. (lol)
Like the disgraced plagerist, Kerns-Goodwin, the signitures said bill klinton's disgraceful, disgusting actions while in office, (ie his perjury, boinking in the WH with kids, etc), did not merit throwing that impeached jack ass out of office. (It was used during big bill's impeachment. LOL.
Elite, in the news democrats LOVE to get petitions together , signed by folks as dumb as they are, to bloster their political agenda!
What a laugh.
If President Bush wanted to get a team of officers together to bolster his agenda, can you even imagine the constrast in character between the two opposing petitions, letters, whatever?
The democrats really are desparate.
Wow, and this coming from an unimpeachablke source like the LATimes.
</sarcasm>
Well, that says enough for me.
It may be of temporary comfort and a display of bravado to be so dismissive but the result of such a head-firmly-in-the-sand posture will result in many early apartment lease terminations by political appointees and employees of this administraion.
