WASHINGTON -- They met at midnight under clear moonlit skies, strangers standing on a patch of foot-worn grass.
There were cattlemen from Texas, soldiers from Virginia, two nuns, two interns in party dresses, a college kid from Delaware wearing a handmade tribute T-shirt. Three suit-and-tie Republicans from Connecticut waited with a child from Washington too young to know why he was there and a Nicaraguan man from California who said it was the least he could do.

You should've heard the news commentator's this evening as Reagan's body was moved from Pt. Mugu Naval Station to the Reagan Library. They were astonished that the opposing traffic on Interstate 101 came to a complete standstill as people simply parked their cars on the middle of the freeway, during rush hour, got out and waited while the motocade passed. It was quite a sight. Quite a good-bye.
