America's affectionate farewell to Ronald Reagan has focused attention on the similarities between the 40th president and President Bush, whose policies of tax cuts and a stronger defense parallel his Republican forefather.

"Whether it was economic policies, national security policies, like national missile defense, or reforming Social Security, everything Bush talks about was something Ronald Reagan had tried to do," said Martin Anderson, who was chief domestic adviser in the Reagan White House.

"Bush's communications style is not his area of expertise. But even though he may not communicate what he says as eloquently as Reagan, he comes across as sincere and believable,"

Agreed. Bush gets the job done.

Bush`s speeches right after 9-11, were the best of his Presidency. That passion and intensity has been lacking in recent speeches. Although the D-day ceremony was a good one.

President Bush's closest advisers have refrained from making comparisons. They are wise, I think not to. President Reagan was unique as a leader and as an American and no one could fill his shoes. President Bush has done a lot of good things but he isn't Reagan. There isn't a politician alive today in this country who is exactly like our beloved President in stature and we will not look upon his like again.

With this, we are in agreement!

There will never be a Ronald Reagan.

You are right. We will not. There will only ever be one Ronald Reagan.

Only one Abraham Lincoln. Only one George Washington.

As there will only ever be one George W. Bush. G.W's record is still being written. The others are assured their greatness in history.

I have no doubt, though, that the Lord will continue to produce uniquely great men to serve this country at times when they are needed most. I believe they still exist to this day. I believe they will continue to be formed in future. We are blessed in this regard.

Why? It's an insult to Reagan in my opinion. There's no comparison.

Reading this Kudlow editorial about Reagan's successful policies also reminded me that Bush is following in Reagan's footsteps.

Kudlow: Reagan's link (between economic growth at home and American strength overseas)

http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/f-news/1150935/posts

Reagan recognized that then and Bush is recognizing it now and shaping his policies accordingly.

It's a great review of Reagan's brilliance and achievements, recognizing that link.

I remember those types on the right who bash Bush 24/7 today, also bashed/complained about Reagan when he was in office.

You know who you are. Shameful.

Reagan would find you insulting.

He'd LOVE W.

And they are similar in every way except for speaking ability. W doesn't quite have the Gipper's way of going to the people for their support, doesn't quite have the elequence.

Indeed. And they did it for the exact same reasons,

The deficit is too big

He hasn't shrunk government

He supports 'amnesty' (this one is really ironic, because you have to be a lunatic right winger to consider Bush's plan anything close to it, and Reagan actually 'did' give a large number of illegals amnesty.)

They are the same in everything but speaking ability. W's OK. Reagan was a unparalelled master.

I hope that circumstances will allow GWB to get back on the campaign trail in earnest as soon as possible. I pray that he'll show us the fire in his belly which may need a little stoking right now.

In my opinion, Bush is every bit the man Reagan was. His only failing is that he lacks Reagan's oratorical skills. I am not happy with some of the spending that he has expanded, and I wish that he would dismantle the Department of Education, but he has been and will continue to be a great president.
