MANCHESTER music legend Morrissey sparked controversy when he announced Ronald Reagan's death live on stage during a concert - and then declared he wished it was George Bush who had died instead.

Thousands of fans at Dublin Castle, in Ireland, cheered when the ex-Smiths frontman made the announcement that the former American president, who had battled with Alzheimer's Disease, had passed away.

And an even bigger cheer followed when Morrissey - who is no stranger to controversy - then said he wished it had been the current President, George W Bush, who had died.

Morrissey? Never heard of it.

It was a popular musician a few decades ago.

Isn't a "morrissey" a kind of small, vile, poisionous insect?

Can't he be declared a "terrorist" now that he's opened his mouth about death to the president?....................

I never heard of these people, either. The audience reaction isn't too surprising, I suppose, considering how much the Irish adore Bill Clinton. Go figure.

MANCHESTER music legend Morrissey

Who?

"Legend" indeed.

At least in this case, apparently, yes.

" Why would a crowd wildly cheer someone's death? "

Because it's the face of socialism-communism-secularism
wrapped up in the cloak of projected self loathing. It's so much easier to hurl insults instead of doing good deeds which require a conscience, integrity, respect, you get the picture. Laziness breeds contempt. Idle minds are the workshop of the devil.

As for the World's Most Depressing Band, I nominate Joy Division, if not Johnny Cash.

I cannot disagree that The Man in Black's lyrics and songs were primarily about prison or hard times or of tough people who survived them. But at least Johnny Cash rose above others to embody many of the elements of life that we, as Freeper's, find important: Faith, Family, Love and Country.

If you never saw his video of the song (I forget the name) which was dedicated to his wife, you should.

My thoughts exactly! I'm sure the Secret Service has investigated even more "innocuous" implied threats than this vile statement . . .

Perhaps a Legend only in Manchester?

I was a huge Smiths' fan back in the 80's , and still give them a listen . They were one of the few excellent bands to emerge out of the UK in the 80's . That said , Morrissey is well known to be an arsehole . He's got his millions and his estate ; now , in order to stuff more dough into his already overflowing coffers , he puts on the ever popular in Europe anti-Bush act in front of a sympathetic crowd of mostly brainwashed and lost British youth . I won't burn my vinyl ; The Smiths made good music . Morrissey is a jerk , as inevitably so many rock stars are .

At the risk of tipping my age, who the hell is Morrissey, and why should I care what he says?

Whomever he is, I guess he didn't hear about the Dixie Chicks...

Rock star jerks, never expect anything else when you mix ignorant degenerates with lethal drug abuse. Nuff said.

And why should Americans give a damn about what some effeminate little EuroPeon twit has to say? The fact that he and his psychophant fans cheered a man's death shows their shallowness and lack of humanity and intelligence. If a meteor suddenly crushed the stage and audience, the quality of the human gene pool would be drastically increased!

It's very unfortunate that he would make such a comment.

It's unfortunate that he believe what he says ...
