MANCHESTER music legend Morrissey sparked controversy when he announced Ronald Reagan's death live on stage during a concert - and then declared he wished it was George Bush who had died instead.
Thousands of fans at Dublin Castle, in Ireland, cheered when the ex-Smiths frontman made the announcement that the former American president, who had battled with Alzheimer's Disease, had passed away.
And an even bigger cheer followed when Morrissey - who is no stranger to controversy - then said he wished it had been the current President, George W Bush, who had died.

Time to burn all those old Smiths and Morrissey CDs!
Feh. And we expect anything different from the frontman of The Smiths, the world's most depressing band?

Good vs Evil. Pure and simple. What a disgusting display this is.
I'm a really big fan of Morrissey, particularly from the days of the Smiths.
It's very unfortunate that he would make such a comment.
I just have to shake my head.
It's time to call Foggy Bottom for visa declining.......
This is unbelievable.
I daresay the only thing more irritating than celebrities pontificating about politics is hearing it from celebrities whose work I appreciate.
I adore Reagan but this is just rude! Reagan is tired and he goes to a better place. I am happy for him. I also plan to meet him there some day.
The Irish crowd went wild...
That is just vulgar! Even if it were someone I disliked, I wouldn't do something so disgraceful as that. Is there no one left with manners? What is wrong with people?
GRRRRRRRRRRR
The Smiths were happy and upbeat, with clever and ironic lyrics.
Morrissey has become a fat and balding caracture of himself over the last Decade+, however.
As for the World's Most Depressing Band, I nominate Joy Division, if not Johnny Cash.
There are a huge number or misguided people in this world today that are simply not able to grasp reality. This is an example. Why would a crowd wildly cheer someone's death?
Socialism, and those that champion it, have a huge voice in this world. Reagan set socialism back, and spread democracy far and wide. I guess some would prefer the other route. I hope we see new spokesmen that carry his message half as elequently has he did. We need it.
I stopped listening to Morrissey when I retired my Zcabarichis and Gerbaud pants in the mid 80s.
Morrissey? Never heard of it. Don't care what it says.
Morrissey doesn't merely have a visa. He resides now in Los Angeles, and has for many years.
What is funny is he was held at LAX under suspicion by Homeland Security a few weeks back, then was cleared with an official letter proclaiming he was not a terrorist.
I've never heard of Morrisey, or Smiths, or whatever incarnation these fools have morphed into - except for the Socialist scum they have revealed themselves to be. They are beneath my boots.
And that goes for the audience, too.
Let us remember that both President Bush and Reagen would forgive the AH for saying such -- but as for me, I would like to displace his smelly rear to somewhere up between his ears.
Time to reconsider that trip to Ireland this fall.
