AP: Iran-Contra affair dogged Reagan (the left is already dancing on his grave)

Iran-Contra affair dogged Reagan

Undated-AP -- A secret arms sale to Iran developed into the biggest scandal of Ronald Reagan's presidency -- and it continued to unfold, even after he left office.

It all stemmed from two separate foreign policy issues facing the Reagan White House: the fight by anti-communist rebels against the Marxist government of Nicaragua, and the effort to free Americans who were being held hostage by extremists in Lebanon.

It turned out Reagan had authorized an arms sale to Iran -- while hoping to get Iran's help in getting the release of the Americans held in Lebanon.

And some of the money paid by Iran was then used to help the Contras, the rebels in Nicaragua -- at a time when Congress had banned direct U-S aid to them.

Reagan always insisted that he didn't know that the money went to the Contras.

But during the trial of his former national security aide, Oliver North, the evidence showed that Reagan was involved in efforts to get other countries to help the rebels.

Reagan initially denied that the Iran-Contra affair included an arms-for-hostages deal with Iran. But later, in a speech broadcast to the nation, he conceded that it had become just that.

And even then, the great one was looking out for the interests of all Americans. Some risks work, some don't.

The contrast between FR and DU is never starker. We had prayer threads for Ms. Ferraro when she had breast cancer. They have parties when a President dies and blame Dubya for RR's death.

Yeah, the only thing that could make them happier is if President Bush were to die.

So far, we've only had one idiot on Airliners.net but I suspect the thread will soon be trashed by all our DU members as they head over from the DU hatefest.

You just wait. The Dims will make Wellstone's funerally look somber in comparison.

I can't believe it (I hate Dan Rather), but I just heard a Rather interview on the radio that was unbelievably complimentary and gracious. Maybe the death of the Great Communicator will bring America together. It was really something special.

DO NOT ALLOW THE LEFT TO HIGHJACK AND REWRITE HIS LEGACY!
Write, call, or vocalize - get out in front!
We will tell his story, because we were there!

You'll offer up prayers for his family, as will we all, regardless of our personal feelings about Slick.

well, this just shows you how people think.
I was PROUD of Reagan and the gang for Iran-Contra
they were creative and showed the kind of initiative
we expect from Americans.
I watched every minute of the hearings and Col. North
was the finest witness this country has ever seen. One only need contrast his testimony with that of the weasling impeached X42.

When Clinton dies, and they must screw him in the ground for being so crooked, the press will all be weepy. Contrast that with the way they are trying to take one last shot at Reagan.

I see some of this in the FR posts. But I sure as hell won't watch their TV channels, and haven't for years now.

Thank you. You're right. I will offer up prayers for his family. I honestly faced something that I did not know just how I would react to. Thank you again.

I just looked at DU and a guy had two smiley faces laughing and clapping with glee.

They are a sick group over there, with a few exceptions.

I hated JFK but I certainly didn't clap with glee when he died. The entire country mourned.

Hey, they forgot to compare the Reagan arms deal with the one Clinton did in Bosnia.

Didn't hear of that one? Its true.

Its also a great way to illustrate the hypocrisy of the MSM (mainstream media).
