TEHRAN, Iran Iran is producing its first stealth missile, a rocket that can evade electronic detection, the Iranian Defense Ministry said Tuesday while withholding its range.
The missile, named Kowsar after a river in Muslim descriptions of paradise, will be capable of hitting ships and aircraft, Defense Ministry spokesman Mohammad Reza Imani told The Associated Press.
He refused to give the missile's range or provide other details. Features of the Kowsar, such as its guidance and positioning systems, are on show at an exhibition in Tehran that is open only to select government officials.
Iranian state television announced the Kowsar Tuesday while screening pictures of a missile flying through the air.
Chief among missiles manufactured by Iran is the Shahab-3, whose range of 810-miles makes it capable of reaching Israel.
Iran also produces tanks, armored personnel carriers, and a fighter plane.
I say its time to speed up the Iranians visit to "paradise" (burning in hell with 72 hags who look like Hillary) with a few hundred missiles of our own.
We'll just blow up the launchers, sink the ships, or bomb the aircraft before they can ever have a chance to be used against our forces.
The mullahs sure seem to be getting a little cocky these days.
One might even say...provocative.
Don't kid yourself FRiend....these are Persians. Think middle eastern Japanese!
The sad thing is, the Iranians won't know what hit them until it's gone.
Besides...a "stealth" missile? Composites? Radar-absorbing fuselage? Advanced design engineering? Iran?
I'm thinking middle eastern Hiroshima and Nagasaki!
No doubt, so are the Israelis.
At some point whatever they have will be invisible. You won't be able to see the little pieces that are left.
These are all important elements, but I think even more important is this: to get the freedom to design an airframe to be really stealthy (in terms of radar cross-section) the designer has to be free from many of the constraints imposed by aerodynamics. In order to do this it is essential to have mastery of digital fly-by-wire technology, active control of systems that are inherently unstable, high-speed (laser) gyros. All tested by very advanced computer simulations, and implemented on highly fault-tolerant real-time systems.
The sort of systems that, in order to make work, you need very intelligent, well paid, creative people and an environment that encourages their best work.
Not the sort of thing you're going to find in Iran.
In fact, I'm willing to bet, any Iranians capable of doing this sort of work are... here.
Hmmm.
(steely)
Stealth missile? Does it burrow through the earth?
all they need is rounded edges and fiberglass skins, and they are halfway there!
Stealth is NOT that hard!
"Composites? Radar-absorbing fuselage?"
What about the F-117 shot down over Serbia. Who else got samples of RAM (radar absorbent material)?
"According to the Dims, what we lack in stealthiness we will compensate for by technique."
Stealth Missile? You are kidding me... LoL!
