Students Rally for Same-Sex Marriages (Barf Alert!)
LA Times ^ | 5/30/04 | Jessica Garrison

About 100 teenagers — armed with ear-splitting screams and hand-lettered signs — rallied Saturday in Westwood in support of marriage for same-sex couples.

"It's important for everyone to be able to live the way they want to," said Kate Heller, 16, a student at Winward School in West Los Angeles.

Two teens from Winward's new Gay-Straight Alliance, Sarah Freed, 17, and Joe Goldman, 14, organized the Federal Building rally, which drew students, gay and straight, from high schools across Orange, Ventura and Los Angeles counties, along with parents, teachers and a fluffy white poodle.

John Duran, mayor of West Hollywood, where three of five council members are gay, listened to the cacophony of cheering youths and honking car horns and smiled in amazement.

"They are part of changing America," he said.

Polls show that young people are far more likely than their elders to be in favor of legalizing gay marriage. A 2001 study of high school seniors found that 66% favored allowing same-sex couples to marry.

On Saturday, 16-year-old Stephanie Gross compared the push for gay marriage to the struggle against segregation.

"It's part of something a lot bigger than any of us," she said as she helped make posters with phrases such as "Love Is Marriage."

Earlier this month, Massachusetts became the first state to legalize same-sex marriage, a move that state's Supreme Court authorized in November. Closer to home, San Francisco Mayor Gavin Newsom began issuing marriage licenses to same-sex couples in February — and stopped March 11 when the California Supreme Court halted the practice. California's highest court has begun hearing arguments about whether Newsom had the authority to permit the marriages.

,,, where I am we've got this Civil Unions legislation looming on the horizon.

Mr Klark will have some side stepping to do when the questions start, if the Opposition has the guts to strike like a mongoose.

It's true that the public schools in this particular city are disasters. The school accepts Catholic girls, Protestant girls, Islamic girls, etc., etc.(The city has a very large Islamic population -- I don't think being a Democrat has much to do with anything).

The school is open to anyone who wishes to apply and can do the work. The school requests that the girls follow their various religions and participate in church services or services at their Mosques.

You can't force teenagers to accept or not accept a certain way of life just because a teacher gets up in front of a class and gives the Church's opinion. Sometimes kids are contrary just to be contrary -- just to get a rise out of adults. Okay, that's fine. I did the same thing.

But I'll bet you five or ten years down the road (or even the day after graduation) when they marry and have children, they'll think twice about whether they approve of homosexual marriage or the lifestyle. They'll think twice because they will remember that they were taught something very different than what kids in many public schools are taught.

That's the difference.

I remember the time when 2 men having sex were charged with "crime against nature" and sent to jail. (like tht was really a punishment to them)

It is a sad state of affairs we are in now....when homosexuals are taking over positions of authority in the church and openly pushing their agenda in the public schools.

sex with the ugliest woman on the planet would have to be better than sex with the bex looking man on the planet, just cause man on man just doesn't fit the scheme of things.

All my instincts, every last atom, tells me that GLSEN and P-FLAG and the like are front groups for NAMBLA.

We should long ago have been in the streets against those Child Predators.

Glsen and P-Flay want to lower the age of consent. They are working in tandem if not overtly.

Yes, I guess if morality isn't taught in the home, they're really in trouble.

Our son recalls a sixth grade class where the idiot teacher was instructing them to be tolerate and embrace the homosexual lifestyle as an equal to heterosexuality. Besides our son, the only kids to speak up and refuse to go along were two Hispanic boys and one black girl.

Homosexual Agenda Ping - And the beat goes on....

I like what Travis said - the plunge into the cesspool. What can stop it? Who will try? We need to ask ourselves these questions, and take whatver action we each can take.

At the very least we can RIP our kids out of public schools if humanly possible, and communicate our viewpoint to public officials. And sign petitions. And run for office. And donate money to organizations and candidates who are on the right side. And rip down posters advertising homo-crap from bulletin boards.

And put creative bumper stickers here and there.

Let me know if anyone wants on/off this pinglist.
